Thank you all kindly for the feedback and useful information. :) I had another go at capturing Saturn the other night with all the above in mind and got what I think is a better result, though the image quality is still seeing limited and the fact that I’m still a novice at planetary acquisition and processing.

Your Welcome Robin, I actually love astrosurface a lot, not sure if I’m missing anything since I’m new, it appears registax has more sliders for wavlets but astrosurface seems to have wavlets and decovolution work together so you can adjust on the fly. Still learning, I processed this last night in bad seeing but still ended up being a pleasant image of an Io transit

That is a good Jupiter, especially capturing the transit in poor seeing.

Thankyou, seeing was bad enough that I had to guess on focus so was super happy it turned out, I would like to catch more transits, it’s a neat thing to photograph

Those are great images of Jupiter and Saturn.

Those two planets are too low for me (obstructions) but the thread encouraged me to also have a first try at planetary. Herewith Mars with a 10 inch dob (f 4.7) and AS1294 pro. 9000 frames of a .SER file (RAW8, 680 x 900, 8 ms) debayered using PIPP and then the best 5% stacked and aligned plus wavelets using Registax. Could have done better I expect with a Barlow to improve image scale - and I have no idea how to optimise wavelets - but also gratified to see anything at all on this first go!
