  • Atik 314E mono CCD, Altair 66ED refractor, Celestron AVX mount, Ha 7nm filter.
  • 9x600s lights + 7 darks.
  • Unguided - mount align via polar scope, 2 alignment + 4 calibration stars, All Star Polar Align to finalise.
  • Focus via Bahtinov Mask.
  • SharpCap 3.2 + Atik ASCOM drivers, FITS Liberator, Siril 0.9.9, GIMP 2.10
  • To calibrate, register & stack took 2 minutes in Siril.
  • In GIMP, a 3 point 'S' shape curve was applied and the contrast adjusted.

Amazing!

What would it look like if you made it shades of red instead of shades of gray?

Found this old data doing a disk tidy - 10x600s unguided with an Ha filter. Reprocessed with Astro Pixel Processor and Neat Image. Time I put some effort into getting guiding working.

Absolutely amazing, it's unguided, and that was before the HyperTune! My tracking becomes worse the closer I get to the celestial equator. I'm almost glad that trees block my view of Orion.

Thanks Brian. I think I got away with it because:
  • the ED66 scope only weighs about 2kg
  • the elevation was around 35°
  • the scope and counterweight were fairly horizontal, which sat nicely on the mount's gears
Processing was quick and simple, I remember struggling with this back in 2018 - some improvement there then.
