Live stack and polar align

#1

Post by AndyBooth »

Newbie question incoming.
Can one use livestack as a feed for polar align , i.e say a 10 frame stack being read by polar alignment routine to boost sensitivity of star detection and reduce noise?

Or alternatively, can one use a Non CMOS CCD e.g a QHY10 as a feed for polar alignment ( it takes around 15 secs to download each frame).

Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,

the answer to question 1 is no - that isn't possible at the moment.

For question 2, if there is a faster way to get the frames (maybe using binning?) then it could work. One frame every 2-4 seconds seems to work well for polar aligning in terms of good detection of stars and reasonably fast feedback to the user. Have a play with the QHY camera and see if you can make it work - you only need a license for the very final adjustment stage of polar aligning and you will know if it works or not before that.

cheers,

Robin

:D Thanks Robin,
I’ll try that!
ive already bought a licence, software like this needs support,
£10 is a great deal for such a comprehensive piece of software.

I like your attitude ;)

I did a fair bit of work to get the QHY CCD cameras working in SharpCap 3.1, so hopefully you will find it just works OK. Do report back if you have problems - I only have CMOS QHY cameras so I can't test myself...

cheers,

Robin
