Field of view partially obscured by trees

#1

Post by mdolenga »

I am using the Polemaster camera with the latest QHY drivers and Sharpcap software installed. My issue is that my field of view is obscured by trees, and as I watch the frames come in, Sharpcap seems to identify many of the gaps between the branches as stars. I've tried a range of min and max pixel sizes without much success. If I wait until it is much darker, well into nautical twilight, it will succeed, but given that the stars are visible well before that, it's a frustrating delay. What settings are recommended for such an image? Is there some way to exclude the section with trees?

Hi Michael,

in this case I'd recommend increasing the black level percentage value in the star detection settings until SharpCap stops picking up those gaps in the branches as stars – basically anything below the percentage specified by the black level is treated as black and so that should be an effective tool for eliminating this problem.

Cheers, Robin
