Change Camera position to Polar Align

#1

Post by carlosgib »

Hi, before changing the mount I did polar alignments using SharpCap with a Polemaster QHY camera that connect through the polar alignment hole in the AP mount. Now with the 10Micron 2000 mount its does not have a polar alignment hole through the mount, so the previous workflow that consisted in turning/rotation the RA to 90 degrees and whereby the QHY camera did not move I cannot do it anymore.
So, the only place that I connected the QHY camera was with a bracket to the dovetail just underneath the telescope, meaning that the camera will rotate as i rotate the RA.

Question, do I continue with the same workflow as I did previously, or there is any another method to polar alignment given this new setup??

Thanks

Carlos

Hi Carlos,

You should be able to carry on using the same procedure that you did before. After all, you've just shifted your polar alignment telescope 30 cm or so to the side, but the things it's looking at are many many light years away, so a small offset to the side makes no difference!
