Might be a good topic to know but like the title says is the auto guider required to use the polar alignment, a lot of us who are new to this part might be curious to know.
I didn't see anything in the open on Sharpcap that says a auto guider is needed.

Hi,

You don't strictly need to use an auto guiding scope and camera to do the polar alignment, but it just so happens that the common combination of scope and camera use for that purpose have the perfect field of view size to make the polar alignment run nicely.

You can run the polar alignment using your main camera on your main scope providing you get a field of view of at least half a degree in each direction (that will usually require a short focal length scope or a large frame camera or both).

Cheers, Robin
