Hi, sorry but this camera cannot be used with Sharpcap at the moment. We hope to have DSLR support sometime in the next year.

I've done a Polar Alignment with my D5300, using the file monitor camera.
- I created a folder dedicated to Sharpcap PA
- Started Sharpcap w/ the file monitor camera, pointed at that shared folder
- Configured BackYard Nikon to take jpgs and use that shared folder
- Set up a series of 50 or so short shots (15s or so, I think) in BYN and let it run
- Performed Sharpcap PA based on images accumulating in the shared folder
- Shut down the BYN run when done, and returned BYN to normal imaging settings.

It's NOT as fast as using a guide camera/scope, due to a) my main scope being f6 and my guidescope f4, and b) fiddling with reconfiguring BYN, but it worked.

Hi Bob,

neat trick! Great to hear that it works. I wonder if it's possible to get away with shorter exposures (and get a faster update time) if you increase the ISO that you are capturing at and maybe even use a lower resolution so that the transfer from the camera to the PC as faster.

Hi,

Sadly direct DSLR support is no longer part of the future plan for SharpCap. There are a number of possible workarounds including using direct show or Ascom drivers written by third parties or using a third-party application to capture images into a folder and allowing SharpCap's new folder monitor camera to automatically process those images as they arrive.

Hi,

support for DSLR cameras will be via the ASCOM.DSLR ASCOM driver - it certainly supports some Nikon models - you will need to check for specific model lists.

Hope this helps,
