Camera & scope on counterweight bar

Would it be possible to attach a lens to the counterweight bar and perform the sharpcap polar alignment routine successfully ? I'm just afraid the lens and camera would not be aligned correctly with the mount.

Like the following :

Hi,

in theory it will work if you can get the lens/camera aligned with the polar axis to within a few degrees - the fact that it is offset by 30-50cm from the polar axis doesn't matter at all.

In practice, if there is any flex in the mounting of the lens/camera as you rotate the mount through 90 degrees then you will get incorrect results - the amount of error will depend on the amount of flex. See the tips on polar alignment troubleshooting here which show how to spot problems with flex in the camera mounting - https://www.sharpcap.co.uk/sharpcap/fea ... leshooting

cheers,

Robin
