Stacking options

Post by Gamewarden »

Is there any difference in final image quality if you save an image in Sharpcap as seen or to save fits files and stack them with other software such as Deep Sky stacker. Usually I save my stacked image from SC as a PNG and then further process using Affinity software. Or you can stack the fits in Affinity software.

Thanks Mark

Hi Mark,

you can almost certainly get better results in the end using DSS to reprocess - if you try hard enough and know what you are doing in DSS.

SharpCap's stacking is designed with three goals - easy to use, fast to process and as good as possible (given the constraints of the first two goals). You have less adjusments to make it easier to use and less sophisticated calculations in some areas to make it fast enough to run while imaging is happening.

The real question is, how much better can you get from DSS, and is it worth the extra effort? That's really a matter of personal preferences...

cheers,

Robin
