Live stack capturing darks - red and blue levels

#1

Post by Tiago Ferreira »

i just want to understand this sentence on sharpcap forum "For darks make sure your brightness, red and blue level are the same as the light frames." if this is valid and also if relevant capturing darks. Or if i should use a standard colour configuration because i change colours during live stack.

I saw this here in this topic:

viewtopic.php?t=1552

I've just realized from the manual that colour space refers to RGB, MONO, etc.: "...The dark frames must be captured using the same resolution and colour space as the image about to be captured...."

But the manual don't specify that need to keep red, blue levels from histogram.

Hi,

a good point - the manual needs to be updated on this.

Basically, a good guideline is as follows:

Set up to take dark frames for the right gain/exposure and show the histogram. Any control that makes the histogram levels change when in this configuration should be kept the same between darks and lights, otherwise dark subtraction will not be correct.

The list will include : brightness, offset, black level, gain, contrast, any white balance controls and possibly many more.

cheers,

Robin
