Dark & Flat Frames for Sub-Frame Images that use Pan/Tilt

#1

Post by RichSky42 »

If one was to use Pan/Tilt to take LiveStack images for a region that is offset centred, and are using Pre-Processing with Subtract Darks and Apply Flats, does one need to use Dark and Flats that were created using the same pan/tilt settings (which would be fairly impractical to plan ahead for) or can the pre-processing automatically select the required bit of dark and flat from larger sized full frame files for its needs ?

(I'm used to Reduction of CCD Images in CCDSoft where a full frame Flats/Darks can be used to reduce a sub-frame lights, provided there they have the same binning, the subframe has the necessary position info (equivalent to its pan & tilt in its fits header) )

Hi,

Right now, you have to use exactly the same pan and tilt settings across the flat/dark/light frames for everything to work properly. There's a feature request thread somewhere on here for the sort of feature that you're describing where you take full frame dark and flat images and SharpCap deals with the rest – it's definitely on my list of things to do in the future, but it hasn't got close to the top of the list yet.

Cheers, Robin
