M101: all RGB/Ha/Near IR combined
M101 Pinwheel Galaxy in merged RGB, Ha and Near IR (NIR) 742nm data. Around 14 hours of data collected in total. Processing was a challenge due to the amount of different data, fuzziness of the arms and strong parts in the arms, amount of different colors, and so on. Really had to kind of force myse...

Re: Histogram in Logarithmic mode makes SC unresponsive
Will do some testing Robin. And check the missing plate solve & sync button then also.

Thanks again Tim!
Makes a bit more sense now. And thanks for the link.

Histogram in Logarithmic mode makes SC unresponsive
SharpCap 4.0.8894.0 (64-bit) When in Logarithmic mode, the use of the histogram makes SharpCap unstable and unresponsive. This with exposures of 500ms. This is for me the default exposure when starting and slewing. Always worked. This with longer exposures is no roblem. When histogram is started, th...

Re: Deconvolving the Eskimo nebula NGC2392
Thanks for the explanation Tim!
Normally I don't do this but in this case I'm going to put it all in Google Translate
A question though: you wrote "extract the CIE X Y and Z channels". What is CIE and what do you mean with X, Y and Z channels?

Re: Setting other temporary directory
Hi Robin I thought that a BAT file would be a system wide alteration for all temp files but it's not. Indeed it works like you suggested. And don't worry, it's not about slowness. It's just my nerdy brain that wants to keep things organized when possible. And no, I'm not autistic, I've been tested f...

Setting other temporary directory
Is there a way to let use SharpCap another, user defined temporary directory instead of the system default? Maybe with an start-up argument? I have a fast dedicated NVMe M2 SSD for my astro stuff and with Siril for instance, I can point it towards where I want the temporary files to be stored and re...

Re: Save RAW Image
You could use a grey card I suppose but for astrophotography it's kind of useless. Due to light pollution, gradients, and so on, the "correct" white balance will always differ. For moon captures, a grey card will work though since the moon reflects sunlight. Also, when you capture and save...

Re: Deconvolving the Eskimo nebula NGC2392
Nice job Tim!
I don't have a mono camera, so will this process also work capturing short exposures, process that as greyscale with some extra sharpening?

Re: Experiment: M101 in Ha / Near IR 742nm
Thanks, Tim, Brian and Queen Mary :) Brian, so sorry I misspell your name so often. Somehow my Dutch brian ... ehr ... brain has difficulties with the ai and ia combination :) And yes, capturing in NIR can have surprising results. Like in M82 where in the central bar, there is a point NIR source (I ...
