How to get beyond USB cable problems

For as long as I can remember I've had issues with dropped frames, LiveStacking that becomes unresponsive, difficulties communicating with my mount, etc. Robin has given me enough advice in the past to narrow this down to USB issues. I'm so tired of the messages, "unable to communicate with mou...

Re: non-LiveStack dithering

Robin,
Thanks for clarifying all this...If I may, one further clarification: So, if I apply a flat +bias + dark, these will ONLY affect the LiveStacking. The raw data is not affected by these? I just want to be sure before heading out tonight.

Thank you,
Joe

Re: non-LiveStack dithering

Chongo, Thank you so much for your explanations. If you don't mind, I'd like clarify the following: 1.) You say to 'Save except when paused/dither'...I know I've seen this somewhere...you said under the Raw Frames drop down menu...is this in the LiveStacking area/menu? 2.) Why would you want to save...

Re: non-LiveStack dithering

Thank you Robin,
Just to clarify, if I use livestack (which I'm already quite familiar) without flats or bias applied and just saved the raw files...would this be all I need in order to dither and then stack later in APP where I would apply both flats and bias?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

non-LiveStack dithering

I'd like to make captures and stack later with APP. I'm familiar with using dithering when Live Stacking, but can SharpCap dither when just capturing images? Or do I need to do this through LiveStacking and use the raw images for later stacking?

Thanks much,
Joe

Re: CPWI changing camera settings

Thanks Noah, I'll be looking into some of the options you mentioned. I know many have turned to ASIair...for now I'll be sticking with my active cable until I decide.

Robin,
Your response is most helpful. When things go crazy, it's always nice to know these forums are only a morning away.

Thanks again,
Joe

Desperate: how can everything fail at once?

If anyone has any suggestions, please, please let me hear. I am absolutely paranoid about my next time under the stars. This is crazy...how can everything fail at once? I've been doing this for well over a year and the debacle last night was simply mind boggling (Note: the night before everything wo...

Re: central bright area...vignetting?

Brian, You've been most generous with your time and effort to help me. I can only hope when I achieve some modicum of success in this hobby, I too will, as they say, 'pay it forward. ' One quick question. Can I use the flat I sent you when I image since the exposure, temperature, gain and camera ori...

Re: central bright area...vignetting?

Once again, much thanks Brian, I sent you the flat files. I'll look forward to your analysis. The flats were take at 120 gain (same as last outing), 1/2 second exposure (this is probably different from what I took outside, not sure the exposure is critical). I sent along a screen shot of the flat hi...
