I take it you do not see a chainsaw in your future and a bit of severe pruning

Re: Cartes du ciel or skychart?

I have always used Stellarium and it is even easier now that Ascom support is native as Stellariumscope could sometimes cause issues for me with EQMod, I have also switched to Green Swamp Server for mount control over EQMod and this is also working and playing well with PHD, SharpCap and Stellarium....

Re: Green predominance

My ASI2600 will do similar all I do in live stack is use the auto colour balance button in the histogram tab and then manually tweak the red / blue sliders again in the live stack histogram to get a black background so that the live stack looks okay. I restack outside of SharpCap for my final image ...

Re: The Power of SharpCap Polar Alignment

I second the sentiment it is an amazing feature and worth the licence fee on it's own. I polar align using my main scope and the gain almost at max and can get away with 1s exposures so almost can adjust the alignment in real time my view of the NCP is unobstructed which is a plus and usually within...

Re: Another M51

swamp was just a generic term not going to get into a long conversation over CCD/CMOS and short vs long exposure. I have used the brain function and it looks to get the sky noise level about the sensor noise level and general in my bortle 4 - 5 sky this will calculate out at 15-20s of exposure with ...

Re: Another M51

Even with longer exposures dithering will still help one is not exclusive to the other. Also as long as the actual short exposure is long enough so that the sky background level swamps the level of the read noise from the sensor then that should be sufficient.

Re: First Attempt at Moon Stacking

We are looking at getting a Quark at some point as the intention is to take the Skywatcher ED72 scope that I sue as a guide off of the main scope and use this to look at the sun in the summer. What are your experiences like with it.

Re: Computer Crash while taking Dark Frames

Cheers Robin will give it ago, is there a way to move the settings that I have from a 32bit to a 64bit install or will this just happen.

Re: First Attempt at Moon Stacking

Nice first effort I do not do much lunar stuff really should do more as it is our nearest neighbour, with my ASI1600 for the full moon I have used the narrowband filters to knock down the exposure with good affect and it is still very short exposure times even with these.

Re: Another M51

Nice shot of M51 I tend to dither a little more often now perhaps every 3 - 4 frames since Robin made the alteration to SharpCap to reduce the exposure time by doing this you lose hardly any imaging time, the only thing I do set is to reject on brightness in the live stack and set the threshold at 5...
