Re: Questions about Brain and when and when not to use it?

Don In the 2nd link, the FITS Liberator shows 'flip image' checked. I think that is the default. Maybe the other software is not flipping or you have flip unchecked? Maybe post a side-by-side comparison to help work out what is a happening. Dave No, it was something even more basic. The FITS Libera...

Re: Questions about Brain and when and when not to use it?

Don I don't know if I will gain/lose anything by doing that compared to the png files I have now I would do a controlled test with FITS & PNG and scrutinise the results before committing time & effort to building the dark library. Dave Thanks Dave. I see Robin has already answered this ques...

Re: Questions about Brain and when and when not to use it?

Tim it seemed sensible to use the same format as for the lights that the dark is subtracted from Logical I would say. Not using the same format introduces unneeded complexity, especially when troubleshooting. How about if you are only livestacking within SharpCap for EAA viewing and then saving any...

Re: Questions about Brain and when and when not to use it?

Hi Tim, Yeah, I didn't stretch it since I didn't know how much of a stretch you were talking about. I figured you could download it and stretch it however much you want. Uploading this file made me realize that all my darks are .png files rather than .fts files. Does this make a difference if I am o...

Re: Questions about Brain and when and when not to use it?

I use a gain of 121 with my ASI 294MC Pro camera and have never seen this banding issue.

Here's an example dark at gain 121: https://photos.app.goo.gl/dcqwnNptrufDwfKK7

Re: Livestack alignment settings

Hi, I think there are some good ideas here, and I share Chris' concern about retaining the ability to tweak individual parameters if any automated settings do not provide the expected or desired results. One item I would like to bring up is that alignment for stacking can be adversely affected by po...

Re: Making longer flat exposures with ASI294MC Pro: ADU or histogram?

I also have not had any problems with short exposure flats at gains from 121 to 250 for Live Stacking EAA in Bortle 6 skies with the 294 MC Pro. I use a varying brightness level depending on gain -- from 4 at 121 gain to 13 at 250 (and 23 if I use 300 gain). Flats are taken with a t-shirt wrapped ar...

Re: New Application for Live Stack in SharpCap 3.2

There are a good many of us that have been using SharpCap to practice EAA with ali-azimuth mounts for some time now.

Re: Imaging Jupiter: Lots of dots in my images

Nice work, Dave! I noticed you went a different direction from the tutorial you put up a while ago on capturing and processing an image of Jupiter. And the settings for the two versions you did here are quite different due to the use of the linked wavelets checkbox in the 2nd one. Do you have any cl...
