Re: IC 391, an unusual 3 armed spiral galaxy

That is a very good find Menno! I must admit that when I too quickly read your script I did start wondering where the obscure constellation 'Stellarium' might be before I realised that you meant the planetarium software :-). Tim

Re: Flaming star and IC405. How to render the colour?

Many thanks Robin, Looking at the images more carefully you choice is right I think and not only aesthetically. Overly suppressing green to get closer to a pre- conceived notion that the nebula should look a deeper red distorted the overall colour balance and reduced the SNR. The bright blue does lo...

Flaming star and IC405. How to render the colour?

For some objects it is relatively easy to make choices about the most appropriate coloration. Star clusters and galaxies - RGB plus optionally NB enhanced HA features - or Wolf Rayet nebula for example where just OIII and HA narrowband will suffice to capture most all of the 'interesting' visible li...

Re: M42 with Sharpcap beta 4.1 and new Stretch Mode setting

Like it ! I think that being able to do observational EEA to that sort of quality in a Bortle 8 zone within only 10 min plus capture a half decent instant image is one of the great strengths of Sharpcap -- now enhanced in 4.1 with better stretching. Tonight I was out on a cold night teaching a newbi...

Thanks Douglas, I'll bear those comments in mind in pursuing further variables. Interesting to see the increase in activity! Tim

A curious advantage of Livestacking. Imaging on a cloudy night

It is cloudy to night -- but I am still imaging . If you take very short frames (as I do for 'lucky image' luminance on occasion) then a great feature of live stacking is that you can just leave it running with the filters set to reject blurred and dim frames then you can just leave it going (as lon...

Re: Do you use Live Stacking or an external stacking program?

Same answer as Jean-Francois In addition I not only always use live stacking because I like the EEA aspect of it but also because making use of the FWHM and brightness filters means that I can avoid saving junk. For some objects the SC autostack is really all that you need and it saves a lot of spac...

Strange and sparkly EEA of the Perseus double cluster

A couple of nights ago I was demonstrating the use of Sharcap and EEA to someone who has just bought their first telescope. Warm indoors with a cup of tea - EEA has just so much to commend it as a means to observe many objects live in one night at a level of detail quite impossible at the eyepiece. ...

Re: C/2022 E3 (ZTF) 60x60s, Altair 183C

Hi Dave, Nice comet capture and thanks for the details. I also got things to work in PI processing - like you by combining a comet master with a stars master - but it really was a bit clunky and am not at all sure whether or not it was the best way. The problems were these ... ) The comet master had...

Re: C/2022/ E3 passing NGC1798 in Auriga

Thanks Menno, yes indeed quite a contrast to so much else that we observe that is unchanging on our timescale. Glad that I managed to get a picture at all even though conditions not great. Tim
