Re: Future Versions of Sharpcap

Just to be clear... as a software developer since the late 80's, I understand the need for good documentation from a business standpoint. :) My comment was mostly tongue-in-cheek (hence the smileys), but with that said... I don't mind new features being added without full documentation. Astro softwa...

Re: Flats and Bias setup

I'm not familiar with the 2600, but I have two other ZWO cameras... the ASI224MC cooled, and an ASI294MC-Pro. In my experience, it never hurts to use darks. And it's so easy to capture and use them in Sharpcap, it's really a non issue IMO. Just cover the scope (or even the camera if it's not in the ...

Re: Live Stacking Questions

In the "Live Stacking" section, there is a box called "Raw Frames". You can use that to save the raw frames, with various options. You can save every frame (Save all), or only the ones that pass the current FWHM and brightness stacking filters (Save stacked), for example. If that...

Re: Live Stacking Questions

The one real drawback to not saving individual frames (whether you stack them later or not), is that if SC crashes or something stupid happens, you've just lost whatever time you had on target. As an example of "something stupid happens", last night I was on a target and it was looking rea...

Re: Live Stacking Questions

Honestly, I rarely bother with saving individual frames and then stacking them in something else anymore. When it's properly set up and filtered, SC's stacking just works. The only exception would normally be if I need lots of time on a target over multiple nights. And even then, I can use SC's fold...

Re: Weird banding noise artifact in live stacking?

For what it's worth, even when guiding with PHD2 and using SC's auto-dither (through PHD2), I still pause the stack and PHD2, and manually bump the mount controls every now and then. For some reason, the dithering link between SC and PHD2 isn't as random as I'd like, and it can cause large offsets, ...

Re: Flats and Bias setup

You don't need to use the same gain for your flats as you do for the light frames. In fact, I usually shoot one master flat after I get focused, and then use that same flat for various gains and exposures during the night, depending on the target and conditions. I have a profile set up for flats tha...

Re: Future Versions of Sharpcap

Personally, I vote for continuing to add new features, over documentation...at least the ones I've requested. :D :D :P

Live stacking - Save and reset

Separate the "reset" from the "Save every xxx"

I would like to be able to save the stack every xxx minutes, without resetting the stack. If you made the "reset" it's own checkbox, then users could save every xxx minutes, and reset if desired.... or not.

It's the simplest things...

...that makes a nerd smile. If anyone tries to tell you that it's not worth spending the money on quality optics, just slap them in their silly head. :) I finally bit the bullet and bought a parracor II for my F/3.9 astrograph, and the difference in resolution and detail is astounding (not to mentio...
