Re: Collimation Aid for SCT's
Hi, there's certainly scope for something like this, although as Menno points out there are options that help already. Actually Mike (@Borodog) has been tinkering with using the planetary live stacking to enhance the image of the star during collimation - see his thread here : https://www.cloudynigh...

Re: Sequencer question (as it relates to solar imaging)
Hi, daytime setup is hard - best bet is to align at night and then leave as much unchanged as possible for the next use during the day. If you can leave the tripod legs all set up and the mount head on the tripod, that's ideal. Then, if you have marked where the tripod legs were during the nighttime...

Re: Scope controls addition...
Hi Mark, let me check that I'm understanding this correctly... You are deliberately forcing the meridian flip for a target still east of the meridian, so that you start imaging that target in the flipped position, and can continue from there until the target sets, since you are 'pre flipped'. I can ...

Re: Alnitak Flip-Flat
Hi Loius,
that's cool - thanks for sharing Does everything now work pretty much as you would hope using the flip flat and the sequencer?
cheers,
Robin

Re: Sharpcap / Computer Crash when imaging a star
Hi, glad it turned out that the PC is stable in testing and that running with the manufacturer PSU seems to cure the crashing issue. I wonder if the other PSU is just less efficient to account for the higher power draw? Or maybe it doesn't control the output voltage as nicely when the load fluctuate...

Re: Sequencer question (as it relates to solar imaging)
Hi, yes, switch over to capture live frames - that will leave the camera in live view mode after capturing, so the image will continuously update. In that state you will be able to see the effects of adjusting the pointing of the mount. You will also get significantly higher frame rates, so captures...

Re: ARP 299: colliding galaxies NGC 3690 and IC 694
Hi Menno, very nice - getting decent images of small targets like that with your light pollution shows real dedication. I had a look at the high res version and downloaded it to have a play as it looked like it might take a bit more sharpening. The barred spiral does improve with a spot of 'fine' sh...

Re: Gains used in sensor analysis
Hi, SharpCap will try to use a roughly equally spaced range of gains when analyzing the camera - the number and spacing would depend on the total gain range of the camera. For instance gains of 100, 300, 1000, 3000, 10000, 30000 might be used. SharpCap will then potentially add to that list any gain...

Re: Sequencer question (as it relates to solar imaging)
Hi, so, the important question is whether the camera is in live mode or still mode when the problem happens... If the camera is in still mode then what you are seeing is expected - the camera will only take frames when requested, and will otherwise sit idle. If you are using still mode delibrately a...

Re: Sharpcap / Computer Crash when imaging a star
Hi, event 41 is just the system rebooting after an unexpected shutdown - it confirms that the system crashed but doesn't tell us why. I had another thought about this though... It would be worth monitoring the CPU temperature while working in case a temperature spike is forcing the shutdown. It's al...
