Creating dark frames

I just started experimenting with creating some dark frames to see if they would help during EAA. I am using an ASI 294 MC Pro with the cooler on. I created one master dark (average of 10 frames, exp 10.3 secs, gain 216, full resolution, 1x1 binning, as this was a simple test, I did not record the t...

Re: Color balance and histogram anomaly

Robin, One other question. For some reason my M42 image isn't posted but the problem is visible in the live stack histogram for Running Man. Initially the histogram dropped off the zero near the left side and the peak was the correct shape. But as the stacking proceeded, the baseline of my histogram...

Color balance and histogram anomaly

Hello, A few issues arose in my last session a few nights ago. I posted these questions in another thread but I think they got lost in the clutter... 1. In the M42 screenshot, the histogram looked good until about 16 minutes then a hump developed at the left side that I kept having to clip off my mo...

Since this was somewhat unrelated to the original thread's topic, I removed the photos and started a new thread for this post. Unfortunately, this post cannot be deleted... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------...

Re: Very poor stacking results...

Hello all, Your feedback has really helped. I got a Bahtinov mask and a motofocus and that really helped. I have also learned alot more abuot using the histogram. Attached a my latest M42 (19 minutes, gain about 200, exp 5-10 seconds), M31 (8 minutes, gain 200, exp 5 seconds) and a view of my Bahtin...

Re: HOWTO Capture and Process an Image of Jupiter

Hi Dave,
Yes the doc was very useful. The wavelet sliders were (and still are) a bit of mystery but at least I have a starting point now.
Just need those planets to get closer again...
Thanks
Dave

Re: HOWTO Capture and Process an Image of Jupiter

Hello,
Since Registax can stack and do the wavelet processing, can we not skip using Autostakkert? Just trying to simplify the workflow and reduce the number of apps to learn. I have used Registax and it seems to work pretty well but I am wondering if Autostakkert maybe stacks better...
Thank

Re: Very poor stacking results...

Hi Brian,
Thanks for the input. Yes, that makes sense. My new motofocus and Bahtinov mask just arrived so I am looking forward to seeing what a good focus can do! I will also use longer exposures and more stacking as you suggested. Hopefully, I will have a nice sharp image to post soon.
