Re: Field of View 0.98 x 0.74

Hi Robin, Thanks for the response. I tried to see the difference in the various calculators online and they didn't produce anything of value. Changing the resolution settings did change the field of view but the same image was used at the end just a bit smaller but still showing exactly the same sta...

Field of View 0.98 x 0.74

Greetings, I recently purchased a new QHY 16200A CFW7 camera that with the supplied OAG and adapter is 2.4 mm longer than the required back focus for my reducer/flattener. I might be forced to ditch the OAG and use a finder scope. I currently use a ZWO 30F4 with a ZWO ASI 120MC-S for polar alignment...

Re: Recommendations on guide scope and camera

I thought I should update this with tonight's effort. AMAZING. It took about 5 minutes to get an excellent polar alignment that drifts a bit when adjusting my camera. So much easier than looking through the view finder with the Star Adventurer. A fair amount of money but my back and my mental health...

Re: Recommendations on guide scope and camera

As most newish houses in Australia have a back yard the size of a postage stamp, I found that when using the camera without a guide scope, the process caused some odd issues. In my favourite spot in the back yard, it seems that the camera is fascinated with my eaves. Due to the wide field of vision ...

Re: Recommendations on guide scope and camera

Steve,

Thanks again. I purchased the ZWO ASI120MC-S without a guide scope. That will keep me occupied for a while as I can see if I need the guide scope or not.

Re: Recommendations on guide scope and camera

Steve, I am grateful for your contribution to this. It is very easy to get carried away with things and a reality check is always welcome. When looking at various images on Astrobin, you can get an idea of what you are likely to see with my current setup. Nothing has any exposures longer than about ...

Re: Recommendations on guide scope and camera

Steve, Svalbard was by far the best holiday EVA!!! We went there for the 2008 solar eclipse. We sailed for Franz Joseph Land but we got icebound for a couple of days. This caused a few polar bears to come up to our ship and watch and sniff us. We saw seven polar bears all up. Absolutely fantastic. W...

Re: Recommendations on guide scope and camera

I got as far as Chandalar Shelf (mainly because of the Ice Road Truckers issues with the climb up to it from the south and blowing snow) and our guide decided it was far enough north. It was a glorious day. What you never hear about is the need to visit any sort of toilet along the Dalton. Infrequen...

Re: Recommendations on guide scope and camera

SteveInNZ, Thanks for the extra information. I was so tempted to buy some stuff from Hong Kong a few minutes ago but I have to test my polar alignment acquisition with some new knowledge. There are SO MANY options that I need to calm down a bit and consider what I need v what I want. Currency exchan...

Re: Recommendations on guide scope and camera

Thanks for the responses. The information was very valuable to me. SteveInNZ, you have already answered some of my polar alignment questions in a Facebook SkyWatcher Star Adventure group. Think of North Pole and Stephen and you will know who I am. You introduced two things (QHY5L with a 25mm C-mount...
