Hi Robin, I am in the process of upgrading a 50-year old GEM with a stepper motor on the RA axis. Previously it used a synchronous motor at a fixed rate determined by the power line frequency. Even with precise polar alignment the tracking suffers from periodic error in the worm gear. In my stepper ...

Re: Helpful tip

After last night's success, I have reflected upon the lessons learned. As a consequence I think I may have stumbled upon the answer for the up-down-left-right problem that many of us have reported: First a bit of background. For many years I worked in the railroad rail testing space. Sensitive instr...

Re: Helpful tip

Great news, Robin, PA went superbly well tonight. I took your advice and boosted my Gain to 100%, Minimum Star Width to 4px, and set the Exposure to 2 sec. (Previously I would run Gain of 50%, the default Minimum Star Width of 1px, and Exposure of 4 sec. I think that the Plate Solver did not like al...

I am, in fact, a bad person who uses 2.9.3055. I promise I will invest in SharpCap Pro today! But last night was an opportunity to get the scope out after suffering through a long stretch of terrible weather. I, like many of you, suffer from up-down-left-right confusion. Last night when SC told me t...

My experience with SharpCap Polar Alignment is generally good although sometimes it just wants to fight me and can take up to an hour. Last night was one of those great nights where I got within 5 arc-minutes in about 10 minutes. Here is a handy rule that I hope helps others: SharpCap begins by aski...

Re: Temperature being used in dark file path

Thank you for the quick reply, Robin. May I ask a quick question off-topic? I lock down my Firefox (latest version) pretty tightly. Prior to creating a login I made a Cookie Exception to accept cookies from https://forums.sharpcap.co.uk Everything went smoothly. I am able to log in and post, etc., b...

Temperature being used in dark file path

Hi, I am running Version 2.9.3055.0. I am considering subscribing to SharpCap Pro but I have a concern: I really like the realtime dark subtraction feature. But as of Version 3.0.3901.0 it says: "ZWO Cameras - fix sensor temperature not being used in dark file path on non-cooled cameras." ...
