Re: Better us of TIFF files, Astro-TIFF
Hi Robin, I familiar with Pascal but not C#. But googling around I think libtiff can do it: http://www.libtiff.org/index.html The tag is: ImageDescription and is covered by the library as described here: http://www.libtiff.org/support.html ImageDescription 270 R/W It is is just a string/text of up t...

Better us of TIFF files, Astro-TIFF
There is currently an initiative to make better use of the TIFF format for astronomy. The idea is to save a FITS header in a standard way into a TIFF file. This make conversion between TIFF and FITS possible without loosing header information. The FITS header is stored in the description tag of the ...

Setting for a fixed FOV for solving
I got a help request from a SharpCap user with field of view of 0.2 degrees. The problem is that ASTAP searches between a FOV 10 degrees and 0.4 degrees. It would help if the users can select in SharpCap between auto FOV and a fixed value. See https://sourceforge.net/p/astap-program/discussion/gener...

Re: FIT header RA seems off
Ra: 2:34:41 hours equals (2+34/60+41/3600)*15=38.67083 degrees. So that seems to match. It is super rare that the solver makes a mistake. Same applies for Astrometry.net. It is not impossible but super rare. It only happens with poor images with only a few stars to work with. It would classify it as...

Re: new command line version of ASTAP
I don't how far this has been introduced in SharpCap, but note that in the command-line version astap_cli a bug in reading the -fov parameter was found and fixed. So download the latest astap_cli for testing.

Solver ASTAP versions released between 2020-9-28 and 2020-10-19
ASTAP versions released on 2020-9-28 or later have bug which result in a poorer performance when used with SharpCap. After adding an improvement for solving global cluster images a bug was introduced effecting the auto FOV routine. For anybody having installed ASTAP on 2020-9-28 (ASTAP version 0.9.4...

Re: ASTAP down-sampling setting in command-line
I think that overall the best thing to do would be for there to be away for the user to specify additional parameters for both Astap and Astrometry.Net -based plate solving applications removing any SharpCap default value for that parameter. Yes an edit box allowing additional commands is a good un...

ASTAP down-sampling setting in command-line
SharpCap executed ASTAP with a command line specifying down-sampling is automatic. This is in 99.5% of the cases correct. Recently I had an exchange with a user which required down-sampling 3. http://nova.astrometry.net/status/3800274 There is no option to set the down-sampling of ASTAP in SharpCap....

Re: Alternative Plate Solver
Hello Robin, The current ASTAP auto find of FOV goes from 9.5 degrees down to 0.6 degrees image height. One SharpCap user reports at CloudyNights a system which produces images of size 0.42 x 0.28 degrees. The auto FOV will not work and requires a manually setting in ASTAP manually. After that is go...
