how to set time and gain
Is there a way to know how to set time and gain so that faintest details in an object can be captured without overexposing brightest parts of object. Thinking of andromeda galaxy and orion nebula.

field of view needed for polar alignment
Would like to use main scope and camera for polar alignment function in sharpcap (do not have autoguiding). I read in an older post that I would need .5 degree field of view in either direction. Does this mean .5 degrees for the shorter dimension of the camera chip?
