Re: Horsehead and Flame Nebula ASI2600C

Nick, Regarding dogs, I've had some great dogs. Tucker, the Cocker Spaniel, was my buddy. Zoe, the American Water Spaniel, was a great pheasant hunting dog. But Aubrey, our Havanese, tries my patience sometimes. Every waking hour, and probably non-waking hour, she is consumed with food, so much so t...

Re: Horsehead and Flame Nebula ASI2600C

Hi Nick, People hate it when I show up making comments, but I figure if you want love, get a dog. IC434 emits large amounts of Ha (red) and SII (deep red), with only trace amounts of OIII (cyan). SII is only one-quarter the strength of Ha. Your color camera is picking up a LOT of red in the emission...

Re: Getting to grips with SC

Hi Mike, I recommended Blind Plate Solve due to woldsweather's silence. We really have no idea of their experience level, therefore I leave it up to you to finish the task. I've lost patience and interest. I've had zero problems with PA after three years and a couple scopes and cameras. I can only a...

Re: Sensor Analysis, Optimal Exposure Times, and LRGB Imaging Budget

Hi Jeff, It's fantastic to see that you have taken a scientific approach to imaging. I take a similar approach. I have a website that enables me to model my telescope, camera, and light pollution. Then, given that model I can apply it to pretty much any DSO for LRGB astrophotography. The range of DS...

Re: Frist Image is always corrupted

Just a thought:

Whenever I change the exposure, I have gotten into the habit of doing this:

1. Wait for the frame using the new settings to arrive.
2. Reset the stretch by clicking the buttons shown in the attachment.

Re: ORION NEBULA at 1,000 frames of 1 second exposures

Dave,

Yes but those images were captured with a 16-inch scope. You need a large aperture like that in order to Hoover-up enough photons in one second to mitigate the quantization seen in RBGDMD's image.

Re: ORION NEBULA at 1,000 frames of 1 second exposures

Interesting effect but eminently expected. It looks like a "paint-by-numbers" kit. I ran your equipment through my calculator and discovered that a one-second exposure is allowing in only about two photons per pixel in the mid-tones. Your sensor can handle a lot more.

Re: Geographic longitude

Steve,

Ah, yes, I see what you are saying. The difference for me is that I only concentrate on the text display: Up degrees/Down degrees. Everything else is just sugar.

Thanks,
Brian

Re: Geographic longitude

Steve, Really? I can rotate my camera any which way but it doesn't matter. My understanding is that the step to rotate 90 degrees enables SharpCap to know which is up/down/left/right relative to your horizon. I could be wrong, I guess. I've been using SharpCap for three years with different scopes, ...

Re: PA Grief.

Sorry, but I need to finish my thoughts on the differences between visual astronomy and astrophotography... In my opinion, you are opening a "can of worms" if you want to do both types, and much of the problem has to do with finding focus. Honestly, there is no need to look through the sco...
