Failed Brain Exposure Calc: No Solution

Ha SharpCap.png Spent > 45 minutes getting the Brain to recommend an Ha exposure. Then was left with "No Solution". Successfully got it work on a Galaxy with the Lum filter, but when I switched to a Nebula and my Ha filter it took multiple 8 min exposures measuring the sky background and ...

Re: DR vs. Full well

OK I understand now. DR (stops) - log2(full well/read noise) Except you can't go above 12 because the ADC is limited to 12 bits. The "Full Well" goes down as the gain goes up because you run out of head room at the input to the ADC. So it's not really "Full Well" but rather the m...

DR vs. Full well

How is DR (stops) calculated, compared to Full Well?

I'm curious about the region between zero gain and 60. The full well doubles but the DR is flat?

Is that because all the e- values produce the same ADU due to the 12bit DAC? If so, how can you measure the full well?

Re: Live Stack Histogram

I think the output is actually 16 bits on the wire. Yeah there are only 12 bits worth of values, but they arrive from the camera as 16bits.

In the ASCOM driver, your choices are RAW16 or RAW8.

Maybe the WDM is different?

Re: Sensor Analysis Questions and Feedback

OK with skyflat diffuser in the evening light, much better! Went very fast as well. Right at the end it did say it was too bright but the results look great (compares well with published data).

Re: Sensor Analysis Questions and Feedback

Yeah I tried to use the plastic defuser I use for skyflats, but it cuts 60% so it was too dim. Will try your suggestions. Also, could you help me understand the difference between the results I'm getting to date and the published values here: https://astronomy-imaging-camera.com/product/asi1600mm-co...

Sensor Analysis Questions and Feedback

Tried the Sensor Analysis in 5/29/2018 version last night. FYI it can get "stuck" if light is too bright. I had to manually pull the exposure slider down to get it to auto set again at one point. Trying to use a light on the side of the house, it was always too bright or too dark, dependin...

Re: Dealing with light pollution

re your focal ratio, the light pollution will get brighter too, so focal ration won't help. There is an argument to be made for aperture, although some disagree. Yeah light pollution filter and an 10x the total integration time (compared to dark sky) is the answer, for LRGB or OSC. Not sure why non ...

Re: Sensor Analysis Takes forever

Yeah or you could have the boundary turn green when it's a good size.

Red = too small
Yellow = too big

I guess might be less than helpful through a red filter or night mode though.

Re: Sensor Analysis Takes forever

RE the area size, I keep looking from somewhere in the UI where it tells you the size (X&Y) you have selected. Is it there and I just don't see it? If not, asking the user to "pick at least 100 pixels per side" isn't very clear (well it's clear, it's just not super obvious and easy to ...
