Re: M3 globular cluster first attempt

Tim, I hope you don't mind. I grabbed your image and cropped it down to 18 arc-minutes across which is what the catalog says is the cluster's diameter. The original crop included too much space that detracted from the subject. The background was a tad bit cold (blue) so I warmed it up with a small s...

Re: 9-1/2 day old Moon

Menno, I haven't explored all of its features yet. I think I read somewhere that it has the ability to stack, but I could be wrong. As of date, I've only used traditional Photoshop-like tools. I really liked the HDR image creation tool. I used Affinity Photo on the following image. It enabled me to ...

Re: 9-1/2 day old Moon

I created a video in Full HD with zoom and pan to my favorite features. Read the video description for special links.

9-1/2 day old Moon

The Moon's altitude was 63 degrees, and the Sun was 6 degrees above the horizon, so the sky was still bright blue. I used a conventional LRGB Red filter to turn the sky nearly black. I made several runs with different ROI's and frame rates, but I like this one the best. It is a 2-minute SER file usi...

Re: Exposure's Effect On Color Quality

Tim, I can give you access to the website, if you are interested. I have to be careful not to allow too many users. I am on a free tier at the cloud database provider. The company used to have a very generous free tier of 100,000 read operations per day, and then they suddenly changed the pricing st...

Re: M81 with SharpCapPro and StarTools

Hi Stewart,

Yeah, 4.43 arcsec/pixel is definitely under-sampled. I am running at 2.29 arcsec/pixel which is borderline. Bin 1 for you is like my Bin 2, stars are square. What about removing the focal reducer?

Re: Exposure's Effect On Color Quality

Hi Tim, Very interesting indeed. These past couple years I've been improving upon a calculator for determining LRGB exposures. My first version required that I take a test exposure with a luminance filter to discover the exposure that lifts the galaxy out of the noise. I admit, it is a totally subje...

Re: Exposure's Effect On Color Quality

Hi Tim, No I have not seen that article, but I'll certainly give it a thorough read. If my initial reading of it is correct, it is saying that there exists a maximum sub-exposure that meets our requirements for detail in the faintest regions of a nebula. If that sub-exposure happens to be 2 minutes,...

Re: M81 with SharpCapPro and StarTools

Hi Stewart, I recently wrote about the differences between hardware binning versus software binning. I'll recreate it here: ************************ In my opinion, user forums perpetuate the myth that there is no advantage to using software binning in CMOS cameras. That is just not true. Still, howe...

Re: M3 globular cluster first attempt

Menno,

It's good to have a great monitor, but a lot of people do not. Something to think of, in the future your gallery should offer two images, one for HDR monitors and another for lesser monitors.
