Robin,
We both have early release versions of this camera and I wondered if you ever managed to get good GPS data when imaging in 16 bit mode ?

Re: Polar Alignment Tool - Starting Rotated Degrees
That's how I use it. I start with it rotated and when it says to rotate, I tell the mount to seek home. As you say, that means up is up, left is left, etc when you are adjusting, but it also inherently checks some other things like the mount knowing where home is, overloaded/unbalanced issues, etc. ...

Re: Problems with PoleMaster
Robin,
I think you have misread the posts above. Those that have been having trouble with Polemaster (I'm one of them) are finding that the issues have been resolved in the latest (6137) release of SharpCap.
We're all happy now.
Steve.

Re: Unguided dither
I would also find it useful if SharpCap could dither.
I use a CEM25-EC and don't need to guide. Since you're already capable of moving the mount after a plate solve, I would have thought generating a random value and commanding a move between shots wouldn't be a big leap.

Crosshair additions
Would it be possible to add a couple of functions to the crosshairs. 1) The ability to recentre the crosshairs (maybe a double click or something). The default is in the centre but once they're moved there's no way to be sure that they have been moved back to the centre. 2) The ability to lock the c...

Re: Recommendations on guide scope and camera
The colour version of the QHY5 uses the same sensor (MT9M034) as the monochrome. The relative QE's are Mono = 75%, Colour = Blue 52%, Green 62%, Red 58%. I don't think that any of the options would be a bad purchase. They'll get you polar aligned which is the immediate problem you need solved. Steve.

Re: Recommendations on guide scope and camera
Then, I would respectfully disagree. I have a Polemaster. Inside a Polemaster is a QHY5 mono camera and a 25mm c-mount lens. Sound familiar ? You can use a Polemaster with either the Polemaster software or Sharpcap for polar alignment. The Polemaster software is quite primitive compared to Sharpcap....

Re: Recommendations on guide scope and camera
That's interesting. We commented that the long-drops were better there as everything that smells was frozen. That was in contrast to China where it was summer and the drop wasn't that long. You've got me envious with Svalbard. We decided to pass on going there for an eclipse a few years back and it'...

Re: Recommendations on guide scope and camera
That's a good plan. Test out your new knowledge and then spend money only if you need to. Sounds like we share a similar level of crazy. We also went to Coldfoot/Wiseman for aurora and had great success. Coldest for us was -40C plus 40 degrees of windchill at the top of Atigun Pass. I have great res...
