Re: Lunar reprocessed with waveSharp

Amazed at how you picked up Hadley rille so clearly! (Apollo 15 landing site)
Great work, Dave.

Re: ASIAM5 Polar Align

Jerry, I know this isn't a comforting thought but the AM5 has a significant Periodic Error (PE) of +/- 20 arc seconds, so you will need auto-guiding for deep-sky especially narrowband. They claim auto-guiding accuracy of 0.5 to 0.8 arc seconds. Therefore, the post-alignment problems you are experien...

Re: ASIAM5 Polar Align

Hi Jerry, I had similar problems with my German Equatorial mount until I found the culprit. I hadn't thoroughly locked the mount in place after completing polar alignment. There was still some play in the altitude and azimuth adjustment. Also look for possible movement in the tripod. I recommend usi...

Re: 3nm exposure times

I can attest that you will get great results with that exposure since the parameters are very similar to mine. However, I'll add that you will need more integration time for SII and OIII since they are generally much weaker than Ha, that is if you are using a mono camera. (I'm not familiar with usin...

Re: RGB balance with QHY715C camera

(Robin, please move this to its own topic.) There is a site called Space Weather that I read daily. Several days before the event they had predictions. There was agreement to expect a 3 magnitude dip, but as the data rolled in from amateurs everyone reported 2 magnitudes. One respondent mentioned th...

Re: RGB balance with QHY715C camera

If my math is correct, that's a 2 magnitude drop.

There is noise in the dip. Please plot again for the range of 4000 to 5000 on the time scale.

Re: Tips needed for imaging the 2024 solar eclipse

Which RedCat? 51, 61, or 71? Each has a different focal length. Will you use the ASI294 with it? Edit: You answered my question. Here is your FOV: Screenshot 2023-12-10 at 10.11.46 PM.png Regarding the solar filter, you absolutely need to remove it during totality or else you'll see nothing. Totalit...

Re: Tips needed for imaging the 2024 solar eclipse

I ran a calculation on your field-of-view given the specs of your scope and camera that you provided in your post. Your FOV looks great but like I said keep an eye on it. Don't let it drift too far out of center: Screenshot 2023-12-10 at 2.46.46 PM.png My last concern is for you to make sure that yo...

Re: Tips needed for imaging the 2024 solar eclipse

Since you are new to scripting, I'd suggest not trying to script it until you become more familiar with it. Instead, use SC's "Start Capture" tool to capture 4 minutes of fixed-exposure frames. What exposure? It's the minimum exposure that pulls the light energy away from the left-hand-sid...

Re: Tips needed for imaging the 2024 solar eclipse

I'm also from the Northeast. The NE is not the greatest choice for clear skies. I was hoping you would say Texas. See if you can find a website that can give you the probability of cloud-free skies in Stowe on that date, then compare it to say Waco, Texas.
