Hi Allen,
Just curious, what scope do you have? From the numbers shown you could really benefit from a faster scope given your dark skies.

Re: Starting with very basic resources, need advice
Hi, You may be confusing 'Celestial Equator' with 'Local Meridian'. Your Local Meridian divides the eastern and western halves of your sky. The dividing line is the Great Circle connecting three points: the South Celestial Pole, the Zenith, and the North Celestial Pole. The Zenith is the point in Sp...

Re: Starting with very basic resources, need advice
Hi, Eta Carinae is at -60 declination, so you're close to the pole. I wish I could offer more help but I've got zero experience with Dobs, however, I have seen posts on this forum from owners. Try typing "Dob" into the search bar. Astrophotography is a humbling hobby perhaps more so than g...

Re: Starting with very basic resources, need advice
Hi, Where are you pointing? If it's near the celestial equator then you'll suffer the worst star drift per exposure. Try something farther north like Cassiopeia. There is a fine double star cluster that is bright. See my photo here: https://forums.sharpcap.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=5987&hilit=double...

Re: Flats issue?
I had the same problem with my new neighbors. City folks escaping urban violence, but then they're afraid of the dark. After two years they finally turned off the light.
Edit: I wish people were just as concerned with light pollution as they are with other types.

Re: Flats issue?
Hi Steve,
The Flats are working. It removed some dust donuts on the sensor. However, the large concentric circles look to me to be either (a) condensation on the sensor, (b) a light leak. I'm leaning towards condensation. Try imaging without the cooler turned on.

Re: Flats temperature?
Hi Steve, I shoot Flats at the same temperature as Lights only because it is easy for me since I have an electroluminescent (EL) panel. I shoot them right after my Lights. However, if the Flats exposure is greater than 2 seconds then I'll also capture Dark Flats. This commonly happens when I use my ...

Re: Use AI to help solve general imaging problems
Robin, I ran the same query again this morning. Like yesterday's results it was "ok" but not as good as the day before. I know one thing, Phind is undergoing rapid development. The UI changed significantly the last couple days, and who knows what else. This morning I noticed that two check...

Re: Use AI to help solve general imaging problems
Hi Robin, The model that Phind uses is updated frequently, that's why it is preferred over ChatGPT, the free-to-use version. Having said that this morning, after reading your reply, I posed the same question to Phind as the day before. Its reply was different but still useful although not as good as...

Use AI to help solve general imaging problems
Conventional search engine requests return a ranked list of relevant results, and depending on the query you can find your answer, however, it takes effort. It behooves you to visit the top 5 results and judge for yourself. Many times you can find what you need but like I said it takes effort. Now i...
