Re: Question about the Smart Histogram (The Brain)
hmmm.... That makes sense but the data are telling me something else. When I measured my sky brightness using my Optolong L-enhance dual narrowband filter (H-alpha, OIII), I get a value of .21e/pixel/s. The Brain said the optimal gain is 121 with exposures of 134 sec with my ZWO ASI294MC. I have bee...

Re: Question about the Smart Histogram (The Brain)
Thanks, Robin. ok- I think I understand the science behind the cameras (i.e., photons, pixels, etc) but I am still confused over 2 things. Based on what you said, it sounds like there is no difference if I do what I have been doing vs. following the Brain's recommendations. I would have thought that...

Question about the Smart Histogram (The Brain)
I have had great success using my ZWO ASI cameras with SharpCap and essentially using gain/exposure/brightness settings either by trial and error or those suggested by others. The past two nights I tried the recommendations from the Brain for my 294MC Pro and was disappointed. For example, I usually...

Re: Messier 76 Little Dumbbell Nebula
Thanks, guys. I agree, it is tricky which I think adds to its lack of popularity.

Re: Crab Nebula, Messier 1
Thanks for the compliments, really appreciate it.
This was imaged using a C11" SCT @f/7 using a ZWO ASI294MC Pro cooled to -10 and an Optolong L-Enhance filter. Camera gain was 300 and brightness 4. Stacking was 120s guided/dithered exposures up to 30 mins. Flats and darks applied.

Re: Messier 76 Little Dumbbell Nebula
Thanks much. She is tough to image but after multiple tries I was pleased with this one for just 1 hr. Not a ton of M76 on Astrobin and the images vary greatly.

Re: Autofocus
Yes. Look up: Automatic Focus Scanning in the documentation. I use the Celestron autofocuser via ASCOM and have used the Moonlite autofocuser in the past and both were detected by SharpCap and work very well.

Re: Nebulae in H-alpha, part 1
Thanks much, Dave. Yes- getting the C11 to play nice along with PHD, OAG, the dew issue we already discussed, etc. has made it a challenge (sometimes fun, sometimes not so fun)- especially being 12ft off of the ground. After about 12 months, I have just about everything automated so rarely need to g...
