Re: ELECTRIC GUITAR (NGC 2451) with dithering

Hi Tim, I too find it difficult to make out the electric guitar but if you focus diagonally from northwest to southeast you will notice the rough outline of a guitar with the large colorful center star acting as the near center cutout hole of the guitar. At first I had been looking at other images o...

Re: Is it possible with 3.3 to dither without guiding and no live stack?

Thanks Robin! It appears to be a random anomaly that occurs only when dithering since I don't see it when not dithering.

Re: Is it possible with 3.3 to dither without guiding and no live stack?

Hi Robin, Below are the two logs pertaining to the acquisitions taken on the March 15 when I first used dithering. The 1st log after the first save shows Exposure=3.935s: [ZWO ASI183MC Pro] FrameType=Light Debayer Preview=On Pan=0 Tilt=0 Output Format=FITS files (*.fits) Binning=1 Capture Area=5496x...

Re: Is it possible with 3.3 to dither without guiding and no live stack?

Hi Robin, When I looked at the log after each save when dithering, the exposure time will eventually drop to 1.0 second. A message on top would appear letting me know there is not enough light. This happened only when I dither. I checked the box for reduced exposure during dithering, might that be t...

ELECTRIC GUITAR (NGC 2451) with dithering

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51047247037_a6da7caf99_z.jpg This open star cluster NGC 2451 is also known as the "Electric Guitar Cluster". Using the "Brain" in SC, I changed "Unity Gain" to "Max. Dynamic Range" which gave me a gain of 0 and an exposure ...

Re: Is it possible with 3.3 to dither without guiding and no live stack?

In SC settings, under guiding, there are a set of parameters for dithering. It first reads "use these parameter when SharpCap requires dithering". Are those four parameters at default and should not be changed or should they be changed for better or for worse depending on the circumstance?...

Re: Is it possible with 3.3 to dither without guiding and no live stack?

Hi Robin, I had downloaded the latest version of SC where you incorporated the ability to dither without guiding. I'm so new to dithering that I have several questions but first you might need to know the type of scope & camera I use: CPC 800 SCT (Altaz) and ZWO ASI183 C. Under SC settings > har...

Running Man & Orion Nebulae together

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50982716152_0bcce0c24b_z.jpg The weather here in Miami hasn't been good lately, therefore I decided to work on the Feb. 2nd acquisition of Orion Nebula to see if I can improve on my processing and incorporate the Running Man Nebula at the same time. I used 1,029 ...

Re: M47 (Open star cluster) & M42 (Final revision)

Dave, Thanks for sharing your chronicles of M42. It is inspiring to see the huge progress you made from your very beginnings. The Feb. 2020 post impressed me the most because you did not blow out the core, making the trapezium discernable. Even the "Running Man" looks sharp. Great work! Rick

Re: M47 (Open star cluster) & M42 (Final revision)

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50955569313_9626dcf9cf_c.jpg Hi Brian, This is now my fourth iteration, all coming from the same initial data. By increasing the number of levels and curves, more and more stars start to appear and turn brighter. It gets to point when enough is enough. Some feel ...
