Re: Using a CS lens for polar alignment tool?

Thanks. I may try a 60mm then. More compact and can pick those up for little.

Thanks Rob

Using a CS lens for polar alignment tool?

I have a couple of Astrotrac mounts and wish to use Sharpcap for polar alignment. A CS lens fitted to my 290M camera would be the neat solution. Question is how short a focal length could I get away with before pixel scale could affect the results? Has anyone tried this? 100mm CS lens would give 5.9...

Re: What long exposures do.

Nick, Shot through a 7nm Ha filter. My sky pollution is 6/7 . I can run about 240s through an L filter. There is little luminance data in the Rosette so i will just capture RGB next. Use the Ha as Luminance. Open a second copy of the Ha and mix that with the red channel. Using a CCD removes the diff...

Re: Brain Function and Narrow Band

I understand your limits here as I am also in the UK. Easy to get caught out with cloud hitting and no blue channel aquired. I now set my filter sequencer to get 2 or 3 of each filter. My focus is close enough on each not to worry. then repeat as opposed to trying say 10+10+10+10 Other option is tim...

Re: Brain Function and Narrow Band

Also, most CCD cameras are 16bit. That gives a massive increase in the range. A very useful asset. Tiny differences in published read noise are irrelevant in comparison.

Re: M42 chronicles

Don, Yes you have done well to get an image like this given the limits of the camera. My comments are to assist anyone reading this. While its possible to overcome difficulties, the points I would like people to note are. Whatever the equipment, follow good practice. It is not as complex as it seems...
