Re: Darks and the "Flip" setting
Ok, so the orientation does matter. I was wondering if SC would auto flip as needed to make sure the dark was always orientated the way the current capture is setup. So what I read on CN was correct. That is what I have been doing and my hot pixels are still pretty visible. I actually created darks ...

Darks and the "Flip" setting
Hello, Does the horiz/vert flip setting matter when creating and applying a master dark? There were some thread on Cloudy Nights that suggested that you had to match the flip setting in both cases in order for them to work. My darks don't seem to be removing my hot pixels so I was wondering if that ...

Re: Image quality in .ser file captures not good
Thank you Robin. I was thinking that was the problem but couldn't quite articulate what I was thinking.

Image quality in .ser file captures not good
Hello, I have recently started to use SC Pro to capture spectroscopy data. Usually something like 10x30 second runs. Each individual frame as displayed in the capture area looks great, but the resulting frames in the ser file are dim and noisy. Attached is a screenshot. The upper field is a frame di...

Polar alignment - finder scope vs guide scope
Hello,
I am going to try the polar alignment feature and the instructions say to use a "finderscope" but I think we really want a guide scope with no inherent magnification. Is this correct?
Thanks as always.

Re: Dedicated guide scope for plate solving
Thanks for the reply, Yes I was thinking maybe a slightly longer focal length might be a little better.

Dedicated guide scope for plate solving
Hello I do alot of spectroscopy so my primary OTA can't be used for plate solving as it has a spectroscope/grating installed. So I was planning on piggybacking a small guide scope for plate solving only. I can't think of any reason why this wouldn't to work. I was planning on using 50mm f3.2 or a 30...

Re: Unable to stack
Hmmm...Interesting...I was trying to get some better detail on small targets and was going for a much smaller image scale. But it was also failing when using a 0.63 FR which should have improved it. It did do much better with my 294 which has 4.63 um pixels. Well I have learned alot during all this....

Re: Unable to stack
Thanks as always Robin,
I think this is boiling down to a long focal length and not enough stars in the field.
