Re: Installing AstroTortolla for plate solving

Bruce First I'd remove both AstroTortilla and All Sky Plate Solver. Also remove Cygwin which was installed with the Astrometry plate solver back end. AstroTortilla and ASPS are just Windows front end for the Astrometry back end. Reboot and make sure all of the above are removed. I can't speak for AS...

Re: Installing AstroTortolla for plate solving

@umasscrew39 For SharpCap you don't need to do anything. SharpCap detects the installation. You just need to make sure you have the correct index files downloaded and installed to cover your field of view for the range of telescopes and camera combinations you intend to use. From what I recall Sharp...

Re: Live Stack with Flat Frame Bug?

GaryS I usually don't redo the flat unless something in the image train changes. For example if I change filter. I've been very very lucky with my main scope a GSO based 6 inch RC. I also have a Moonlight focuser which has made all the difference. Once I focus at the beginning of the night the tempe...

Re: Live Stack with Flat Frame Bug?

@GaryS Your darks strategy is more or less what I do. For darks it's very important your brightness, Red and Blue white balance is the same as what you intend to image with. For flats on a CMOS camera never use 0 gain. At a minimum I would never go below unity gain (117 and 120 for HCG mode) I use t...

Re: Flats and Offset Question

Unless you're changing exposure, gain, brightness etc settings the offset= should be pretty much the same.

I posted on the other thread the process I use.

Re: Live Stack with Flat Frame Bug?

Flats continued 4. Adjust the exposure time (for my flats light source and gain 300 220ms -230ms) You'll need to adjust based on your light source to get similar histogram. I'm using a simulated image here but it will look something like this. If you have filters in the image train this will also ch...

Re: Live Stack with Flat Frame Bug?

Hi GaryS I'll try to explain the process I use that I've found success with using flat and dark for Live Stacking. The "offset=" suffix in flats don't worry about it. This is used internal by SC. Long story short = ignore this! I'm assuming you have some way to illuminate your camera while...

Re: Flats and Offset Question

Hi GaryS, In your question about offset are you referring to the suffix "offset=" that SC adds to the title of the master dark when it's created with the flat creation tool? If this is your question this value is used by SharpCap if you used bias frames while using the flat creation tool t...

Re: RGB ants marching across images? (ASI294)

Hi, I've been using the ASI294 with SharpCap for over 1.5 years and have not experienced this nor have I seen this with many friends using the same combo. This may be a camera defect? Few questions to help narrow this down. 1. Does this occur in other applications beside SharpCap? SharpCap Version? ...

Re: Dithering

Hi Can't remember witch revision of SharpCap 3.2 this was added in but Robin added a temporary work around for loosing long exposures during dither. Update to latest version to make sure you have the feature. Keep in mind Dither only works in Live Stacking with PHD. In the Live Stacking Guiding tab ...
