Automatic switching of dark frames

I employ dark frame subtraction. It's one of the best features of SC. I've read of subscribers compiling dark frame libraries on cloudy nights. It would be neat if SC could automatically switch to a new dark frame set whenever the sensor temperature changes. And if there is none readily available th...

Re: Temperature being used in dark file path

Robin, The docs have precious little to say about sensor temperature. How often does SharpCap sample it? Can I set an alarm whenever it changes? If not, is it something I can do in script? I've decided to get really aggressive with this. The plan going forward is to watch sensor temperature like a h...

NGC 7331

Here is my first attempt at imaging a galaxy. It is not perfect. My biggest mistake was reusing darks from the previous night when the ambient temperature was a couple degrees Fahrenheit cooler. I will never make that mistake again. I did not even check to see how different the sensor temperature wa...

Re: Binning ASI120MC

Thank you Robin and Dave for your compliments and encouragement. As a programmer, and jack-of-all-trades-but-master-of-none as my Dad would say, I agree that the key to sustained progress is pulling only one lever at a time and finding the one with the best risk-to-reward ratio. I agree that my came...

Re: Binning ASI120MC

Robin, You might find this interesting. The last time I had some good weather was July 15th (12 days ago)! I had one last shot at capturing the Dumbbell. My motto is "do more with less" so I refuse to do guided astrophotography what with the cost of a guide scope and camera. Call me cheap....

Re: Binning ASI120MC

Let me be more specific. When ZWO talks about "software" do they mean the software in SharpCap, or the Windows driver for the camera, or ZWO's firmware, or software incorporated in the sensor? I mean, software has its hands in the magic from beginning to end. From my perspective, SharpCap ...

Binning ASI120MC

Thank you for that great tutorial on Binning! The user manual for my ASI120MC says this under the heading named "Binning": The ASI120 camera supports software bin2 mode. You should use 10bit ADC. We recommend customer to use software binning if you don't care speed. Would you be kind enoug...

Re: Running script from toolbar

Thanks, Robin, that's an acceptable workaround. I can keep "foo" as a registered startup script, and then simply execute foo() from either the Python Pad or from the interactive prompt. I was afraid that I would need to click the "open" toolbar icon and navigate to the python fil...
