Re: Open Star Cluster M34 using a Newtonian Mask
Tim, That is a tight FOV! You've got good star color. It is amazing what CMOS cameras can do with such short exposures. On the positive side, your FOV would be great for galaxies. M81 Bode's Galaxy will be coming around soon. Give it a try. Here is mine from a year ago. I used Bin 1 for luminance, a...

Re: Open Star Cluster M34 using a Newtonian Mask
Hi Tim, Thank you for your reply! Great questions. The Newtonian Mask adds visual interest. I have a refractor. Refractors render stars as round discs due to the clear, unobstructed path provided by the lens system. Newtonian reflectors utilize two mirrors. The primary mirror gathers starlight, and ...

Re: My BATCH Script
Hi Robin,
'import socket' works for me, but I am running SharpCap 3.1, second to last patch.

Jesus,
I enjoyed reading your code. Very well-structured, and makes maximal use of the Windows Forms library.
Thanks,
Brian

I think I'm going with this going forward.

NGC 1664 in Color
NGC-1664_W12-45x60s_R-70x60s_G-35x60s_APP_S15-3-25_SA-35-25_G96_NEAT.jpg Last week I imaged this delicate star cluster in Auriga in monochrome with my new friend, the Wratten #12 filter (minus blue): https://forums.sharpcap.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=3366 Shortly thereafter I developed a color ...

Re: Perseus Double Cluster
Bruce, I went back and scrutinized my frames and discovered that I was badly out-of-focus in G and W12. Red was excellent. I am to blame. I was racing against the meridian. I usually spend more time when focusing but I was rushed. As it is I had to cut short my W12 run when my scope banged up agains...

Re: Perseus Double Cluster
Thanks, Bruce, but you know, it never fails, every step forward leads to more head scratching and then refinement. We, I mean "I", never seem to be happy with what I've accomplished. I thank you for your kind words!

Re: Persius Double Cluster
Thanks, Dave. Something I noticed: The diffraction pattern depends on the filter as can be seen in the attachment. I am certain that this is due to the 2mm thickness of the Newtonian Mask's vanes. Long wavelengths (red) diffract more than short wavelengths (green), so red light does a better job of ...
