I have same camera 462c and sharpcap pro, I purchased a new laptop and redownload sharpcap and qhy drivers and went out to photograph Mars.... my issue is my histogram is very flat, dives straight down on left and tracks along bottom.... I am use to adjusting my levels ...

Re: Focus question/suggestion

Yes Donstim, there are many methods that get you close, I went out last night and did various methods back to back but unfortunately it ends up being lucky focusing, the three images looked mostly the same but some tiny details emerged in one that was not in the others.... and these details probably...

Re: help mars

Be careful not to zero out your gain though, it causes an onion style artifact with some camera so a healthy mix of low gain and exposures is best

Re: Focus question/suggestion

Just wanted to share that I did here back from the author of firecapture too, he also stated that the wavlet idea is something he has bounced around over the last few years but never got on the priority list.I do hope that when you get around to writing the preview stacking code you will make a stab...

Re: Focus question/suggestion

The astrosurface guy might even give you his wavlet code if it was something you wanted to pursue, he seems to be writing for the love of it, I already mentioned this to him

Re: Focus question/suggestion

Might be worth exploring, in my mind you would only need a mid range hf with no adjustments at all because your not trying to do real-time processing, your just wanting a rough more detailed image to focus on, wouldn’t matter if it was ugly :D ..... guess I’m just saying a stripped down one trick po...

Re: Focus question/suggestion

Just a follow up on this Robin since your actually working on a Stacking solution, someone had an idea in that discussion of actually adding a rough wavlet to a few stacked images.... that seems to me that it would work as well as the reference comparison idea I had, I noted that at least in the ast...

Re: Focus question/suggestion

I was brainstorming this last night and just posted this in cloudy nights for feedback, maybe something to consider? I’m not a programmer so when I have ideas like this all I can do is throw them out there for others to destroy or embrace but as a newbie sometimes fresh eyes bring better solutions, ...
