Re: Understanding Binning

Binning : Adding or Averaging In the second post where we did our first binning calculation, we added the four pixel values to get a new binned value of 800. This is quite a common binning technique and it has the desirable property of making the image immediately four times brighter to show faint d...

Re: Understanding Binning

So, let's work through a CCD camera example with a read noise of 10e but otherwise unchanged. With no binning, our total noise is SQRT(7*7+10*10) = SQRT(150) = 12.2e or ~49 ADU, giving an SNR of about 4. If we perform 2x2 binning the CCD way of adding the charges then reading out, we find that our 2...

Re: Understanding Binning

Ok, so what we've arrived at so far is that each pixel has a certain amount of noise and it comes from a mixture of 3 sources. Let's go back to our example with our pixel value of 200 where we calculated a noise of 29ADU. Going back to our concept of signal-to-noise-ratio, we get an SNR of about 6.8...

Understanding Binning

There's a lot of misunderstanding about how binning improves images and whether software binning (as used by CMOS cameras) is worth using or not. Sadly the situation isn't really helped by some people who don't really understand the situation claiming that they do... So, let's talk about binning and...

Re: Info/Help needed from SharpCap Pro users

In answer 1) Yes, I'm the only one who can read the admin email 2) It's not the transaction number I want - it's the date above the transaction number. In the image above the '1 May 2017 17:43:28 BST'. Sadly the transaction numbers are useless to me as the one I get from Paypal doesn't match the one...

Info/Help needed from SharpCap Pro users

Hi folks, I'm looking for some info to help me improve the license recovery page on the SharpCap Pro sales website. At the moment you can get your license re-sent to you just by entering the email address you used to purchase it here - https://store.astrosharp.co.uk/Recovery . That's great but somet...

Re: SAC4-2 camera support?

Hi Wolfgang, I hate to say it, but I suspect that it's now just a brick :( With Windows XP and earlier versions life was easier for very small hardware manufacturers - they could write the drivers for their device, the only had to worry about 32 bit operating systems and they could ship them. Window...

Re: iOptron iEQ45-GTN

Hi, probably best to wait for the next alpha release and then see if that helps (capture logs from SharpCap and the iOptron driver if possible). The next alpha release also has blind plate solving which does not require the mount to be used (although it doesn't do anything with the solution except s...

Re: Preprocessing in LX mode

Hi, I'm afraid these features are not supported for the SPC cameras in LX mode in SharpCap 3.0, even in Pro mode. A large amount of code would need to be rewritten to support these features and the cameras are getting less and less use these days (Philips stopped selling them nearly 10 years ago now...

Re: Running script from toolbar

Workaround: Press the 'Run' (play) button below the interactive area - this runs the code in the 'Python Pad' at the bottom and brings back the prompt when it has gone missing. There are other circumstances where the interactive prompt goes missing - unfortunately the IronPythonConsole component I u...
