Re: Practical Astronomy Show 2023 Robins talks Are they on Youtube Yet?

Hi Derek,

yes, someone took video of the talks, but as far as I know they are not online yet - I presume it takes some time to edit them and then get them uploaded. I know who was doing it, so will see if I can find out how it is going.

cheers,

Robin

Re: ErrorCode 0x800004003 using ASCOMDSLR

Hi, unfortunately the error code is a fairly generic one, so doesn't point straight at the likely cause. From a general troubleshooting point of view, a starting point would be to check that everything is just the same on the new PC as on the old one - ie * Same version of SharpCap (including whethe...

Re: Auto Debayering in PixInsight

Well, this is odd... I took two images in latest SharpCap with everything the same except the 'normal/inverted' option for FITS patterns. Looked at the fits headers and they are different as expected (BAYOFFY/YBAYROFF/COLORTYP/BAYERPAT changed). Capture2.JPG Open them both into the latest Siril 1.2....

Re: Auto Debayering in PixInsight

Hmmm, the plot thickens...

I am thinking that these programs have relatively recently added support for ROWORDER, which then throws off the settings that used to work.

If you chose the 'inverted' option, I suspect things will work out. I will test myself too and see what I see.

cheers,

Re: Plate solving problems

Hi Michael, yes, I'd agree, in fact the H18 should work across a wider range of scales than H17, but may be slower as there are more patterns to check. It may be worth loading your image into Astap itself and playing around there to see if you can persuade Astap to solve it directly - easier to tink...

Re: ASI2600MM Sensor Analysis and Binning

Hi Ted, yes, that sounds correct from PixInsight - the signal strength is proportional to the number of pixels binned and the noise is proportional to the square root, so the SNR improves proportional to the square root. I hadn't spotted the ZWO web page previously - everything is pretty much as I e...

I made an Arduino Focuser :)

Hi folks, If anyone has seen me over the years at one of the UK Astro Shows on the SharpCap stand, you have probably seen one or more incarnations of a homemade ASCOM focuser based on a simple SkyWatcher focus motor and a little USB gadget to drive it. Usually with 3D printed gears of one sort or an...

Re: ASI2600MM Sensor Analysis and Binning

Hi Ted, Binning for CCD cameras was a useful tool, since in CCD sensors, binning is handled by the electrons from more than one pixel all getting lumped together and fed through the A to D converter in one go. That meant that you only got one lot of read noise, but you had more signal, so it conside...

Re: Deep Space Annotation Window Position

Hi Pete,

hmmm, that sounds like I mis-remembered how it works more than anything. I will have a poke around at the code.

cheers,

Re: Exposure / Gain shift

Hi, I had a look and it was a build up of rounding errors - every time the slider is moved a bit it tries to adjust the gain/exposure for that small change, but the *gain* value gets rounded off each time. I changed the code so that all the calculations are done from the 'reference' gain and exposur...
