Re: Effect of L-eNhance Filter -- M27

Thanks guys for the discussion. In response to your first post, Bruce, I am basically doing EAA with a little post-processing. I save the stack from SharpCap "with adjustments," not the individual FITS files. All the adjustments I make in SharpCap are with the sliders in the livestack wind...

Effect of L-eNhance Filter -- M27

Here is a comparison of an M27 I captured a couple of nights ago using an L-eNhance filter: https://photos.app.goo.gl/eHH4iqvu2VYspsZJ9 compared to one I took last year without any filters: https://photos.app.goo.gl/p5Bg71fwemb4pTR2A Both were taken with a Celestron Evolution 8 with a Celestron 0.63...

Re: ZWO294 MC Pro best gain

Hi Joe, I also practice EAA rather than long exposure astrophotography. With a Celestron 8-inch and 0.63x reducer/corrector, SharpCap's Brain usually recommends 121 gain , brightness 4, and 10-20 second exposures in my Bortle 6+ skies. That seems to work well for me. If I use a filter like the L-eNh...

Re: Smart Histogram always way too dark, no matter what

Menlo, I think (hope?) you have your answer. The Brain's suggested max dynamic range exposure/gain settings (for the measured sky brightness, camera sensor analysis, min/max exposure limits, and desired read noise limit) will give you the best dynamic range in a stacked image. It assumes you will be...

Re: Smart Histogram always way too dark, no matter what

I don't have the same camera you do, so can't comment directly on the Brain's suggested gain/exposure/brightness settings other than it has picked the gain where the read noise has a sudden "step" dropoff and so corresponds with the highest dynamic range, lowest read noise gain for your ca...

Re: Smart Histogram always way too dark, no matter what

Frankly, I don't see anyone directly responding to Menno's question, which as I understand it is, why, when he uses the settings recommended by the Brain tool, are the resulting images so dark as to be completely unusable? I am sure he understands he can use any gain/exposure/brightness settings tha...

Re: Sigma Clipping setting during Live Stacking

I've been unable to prevent satellite streaks during live stacking. Last night I got several streaks before sigma clipping had a chance to build its calibration. So, I cleared the stack then got a streak after the 10 frames had been acquired. Essentially no pixels rejected (maybe 0.0001%). ZWO ASI 2...

Re: unequal brightness in image

Any chance you could have an outside light source reflecting in? What happens if you change camera orientation? What do your flats show?

Re: Needle Galaxy and NGC 4562

I am partial to the 2nd one, too. With some trepidation, I'll post my more EAA-oriented image comprised of 30 minutes of 20 second subs. No filter, Bortle 6 and through intermittent thin clouds with a Celestron Evolution 8 (Alt-Az mount) and f/6.3 reducer/corrector. ASI 294 MC Pro -- Flats/darks use...
