Re: In need of a SharpCap tutor
Joe, When Dave says he first captures a single RAW frame, that means a single frame of the object in RAW format. It is a little confusing if you don't know what a RAW format is because there is no selection in Sharpcap to select RAW. RAW here means an uncompressed unprocessed image file, which in Sh...

Re: In need of a SharpCap tutor
Joe, It definitely sounds like you're on the right track. I don't know what caused your connection issue, but I have been having some erratic connection issues at times. I think these are mostly caused by weight of the camera's remote control pulling on the cable. I try to keep the remote perched on...

Re: In need of a SharpCap tutor
Joe, I have the same camera and telescope as you and just a smidge more experience with it. The fact that you can get an image on the monitor, but not in Sharpcap is very interesting. I've hardly used the monitor, but in principle I would expect the video signal to provide the same image in Sharpcap...

Re: First time success... well, not quite. Need help
Joe, Have you had any luck in being able to image anything besides bright stars with your Revolution Imager and Sharpcap? I have the same telescope/imager as you (but without Starsense). The key items for me in achieving an image to start working with in Sharpcap (either preview or Live Stacking) ar...

Re: Live Stacking Beginner help
Dave, Just a few comments on your excellent tutorial document: 1. You are using SharpCap 3.2, which is a temporary beta version. Nice to be using the most recent version, but I don't typically use beta software. (I will now in this case!) 2. When the instructions say "Apply Display Histogram Stretch...

Re: Live Stacking Beginner help
Thanks, Dave. With all the help you have provided already, I hope to at least get a little better. I feel way behind the power curve right now with so much to learn. First there's the equipment - imager and telescope that came as a bundle from Orange County Telescopes (so the imager was basically fr...

Re: Live Stacking Beginner help
Thanks Dave for posting pointers to your tips on getting good planetary images. I'm sure that will help a lot. Here were my first attempts at Saturn and Jupiter. A little overboard on the sharpening I think, but I was trying to find at least some level of detail. There are major differences between ...

Re: Live Stacking Beginner help
Dave, Yes, that would be great if you could write up the notes and put them into the tutorial forum. Feel free to use my image and and who's to blame for taking it! I would be glad to go through and give a test use to the document when it is uploaded. Another very basic question -- You said you used...

Re: Live Stacking Beginner help
Dave, Well, that's way beyond where I ever expect to get to! I am more interested in EAA and saving good images as photos than getting deeply into actual astrophotography. One of the main lessons I think you are trying to convey to me is to really pay attention to the histogram to get the black/whit...

Re: Live Stacking Beginner help
I was referring to your M27 image here: https://forums.sharpcap.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=297&sid=2a146e59dcc4c8ae776a8ef6b6b109cb I didn't realize SharpCap has a reticule. I will have to start using that. For alignment, I start with using the GoTo function for the aligned scope, then center the object ...
