Re: unequal brightness in image

Any chance you could have an outside light source reflecting in? What happens if you change camera orientation? What do your flats show?

Re: Needle Galaxy and NGC 4562

I am partial to the 2nd one, too. With some trepidation, I'll post my more EAA-oriented image comprised of 30 minutes of 20 second subs. No filter, Bortle 6 and through intermittent thin clouds with a Celestron Evolution 8 (Alt-Az mount) and f/6.3 reducer/corrector. ASI 294 MC Pro -- Flats/darks use...

Re: SC subs - internal OR external calibration?

I'm sorry, Dave, but I seriously don't know why you're showing me this, nor why you seemed to make a point of not using darks, flats, or bias. Live stacking actually has provisions for those and in my case, they are usually needed unless the object being imaged is very small. It is a nice shot, thou...

Re: SC subs - internal OR external calibration?

Gee, Brian, and here I thought you and Dave eschewed live stacking because you were interested in "quality" over a "quick result." All kidding aside, I am simply trying to point out that there are more practical uses for SharpCap's live stacking than simply astronomy clubs or public gatherings...

Re: SC subs - internal OR external calibration?

For me, a practical use of the Live Stack process is when working with astronomy clubs or educational/public gatherings where a quick result is desirable over higher quality. Dave Or, you are doing EAA to to view an object otherwise unviewable and are not interested in spending hours capturing data...

Re: Can you use the hand controller with SkySafari

Yes, you can use the directional buttons on the hand controller to slew the mount regardless of what application you used to align the mount. Just don't try to use the HC for anything else!

Re: Noise Reduction in Deep Sky Images

Wow, thank you for this find, Dave. This does a much better job than wavelet denoise in GIMP (or at least the way I have been using it).

Re: Lunar imaging with filters

Wow, thanks Dave. I did not realize that there could be such dramatic differences in sharpness when using a color filter on a camera with the Moon. Thanks for sharing!
