Re: Polar Alignment Star Gets Changed to Another Star

Great, thanks! The reason that I zoom in during polar alignment is that my laptop isn't positioned very close to the mount and the "arrow and box" diagram on the screen is pretty small, so zooming in just lets me see it better.

Re: Polar Alignment Star Gets Changed to Another Star

Thanks Robin. I had the camera doing 1.5 second exposures at a fairly high gain. If I reduce the gain (to reduce the noise), then I'll have to go to longer exposures, which means I'll have to wait longer after each change of the mount's alt/az dials in order to see the change. Assuming that noise wa...

Polar Alignment Star Gets Changed to Another Star

Tonight I was trying to use the Polar Alignment tool and followed the instructions exactly, and a star was select in the lower right of the window showing how it needed to move in order to complete the alignment. Re: Lines Emanating from Brighter Stars

Ah, got it. I'm hoping to get a clear sky tonight and do some additional captures and save each image.

Thanks Again!

Re: Lines Emanating from Brighter Stars

Hello Menno,

Unfortunately I didn't save the individual frames. I'm going to do that when I get another clear night.

Thanks,

Re: Lines Emanating from Brighter Stars

Thanks Robin. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. If the mount had shifted as you indicated, wouldn't the curved lines be wider than they are to be more like the diameter of the stars?

Lines Emanating from Brighter Stars

See the attached photo.....this is the resulting stack of 30 frames at 2 minutes each. Note that the brighter stars have curved lines emanating from the top and bottom. My setup was an Explore Scientific 127ED refractor with .8 focal reducer/flattener and Optolong L-Pro filter and a ZWO ASI2600MC pr...
