Re: DSO lucky imaging

would like to realize a DSO Lucky Image with the 462C and a newton 10” F/4 You might find this useful/interesting https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/533802-m64-2400-x-1-second-16/ . See post #20. Poster MvZ is Emil Kraaikamp, author of Autostakkert. He uses a 16" Dob and captures 2000 x 1s SER...

Re: Lunar UV/IR cut + Wratten #25 filters

Thanks Tim. I think the mile and a half is about right considering the equipment and comparing with Virtual Moon Atlas. Those are about as good as I will get. Any improvement now will be brought about by better atmospheric conditions/higher elevation. The combination of UV/IR and #25 red allowed rea...

Re: Jupiter and Saturn - Brand new to this

Eric In the Jupiter document I had a Target name set as ‘Jupiter 685 x2’. This tells me I was using an IR685 filter and a 2x Barlow. Both of those will have had an impact on the exposure time - think the SER playback shows around 5fps. My general steps for Jupiter are: set gain to 70% of maximum usi...

Re: Thought it was in color

Don't have that camera - Robin will be best placed to answer this. I have just been reading this book to get in shape for solar imaging, £7 for a Kindle edition. 44 pages only but is a good start. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Guide-Taking-Processing-Webcam-Images/dp/1999773217/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&ke...

Re: Thought it was in color

Yes white light solar filters will require false colour to be applied. The TIFF image available for download was 6000x4000. The camera settings file showed 6000x4000 but with bin 2. If you captured at bin2 that will have reduced detail. ASI2600 I would have thought of as more for wide field work. Yo...

Re: Thought it was in color

Taking your downloaded image, I managed to produce this in GIMP: final.JPG The steps: 1) Load the TIFF file in GIMP 2) Colors > Curves 3) Select the Blue channel, grab the curve and drag to the bottom right (effectively removing blue). blue-channel.JPG 4) Select the Red channel, grab the curve and d...

Re: Clavius region 7-panel mosaic

Thanks Tim. Answers: 1) 7 x 1 minute panels plus some slewing will mean that the image set takes around 10 minutes to capture. As the moon progresses the terminator angle does change. I suppose it all contributes. Even the illumination changes over 10 minutes as the exposure had to be adjusted to ma...

Clavius region 7-panel mosaic
