Re: After 20 years, I decided to see what this refractor stuff was all about...
Good image for just 20 min! Thanks It was just one of those "Oh look... Orion is up" moments, just before wrapping up some testing on it. Figured what the hell. :) It was pointed at my worst light-polluted direction and has a lot of noise for just the 20 minutes (thus the waxiness in the ...

Is it worth spending the money?
Stupid question, I know. None of us got into this hobby because it was inexpensive. :) But... I've used a Baader MPCC III coma corrector for the last 3 years on my Orion F3.9 astrograph. I've read every forum post there is, tried every spacing possible, and have experimented until I'm brain dead. An...

Having fun with my first refractor, ever. After 20 years of reflectors, I decided to get a little wide-field scope (AT72EDII) and see what I could do with it. So far, I like it. Still trying to fine-tune the reducer/flattener backspacing, but it's close. Here is a first light (ok, maybe 3rd or 4th f...

Re: Plate Solving is Terrific - how do I slew to target in SC
Honestly, IMO just use Stellarium, assuming you are on a PC. It has native support for ASCOM now, and of course that classic database and all of it's functionality. Not to mention, you can set up your sensors and lenses and see exactly how it's going to be framed before capturing a single image. I j...

Here is a good comparison of the scope before and after the parracor, under very similar conditions just two nights apart.

Re: It's the simplest things...
:D It is rare that I can get my Newtonian (plus paracorr) tuned up to better than ~ r= 0.95 Tim Same. I have an Orion 8" f/3.9 astrograph, and have been fighting a lot of little things that all add up (and being in a windy city suburb doesn't help). I still have a few issues I'm dealing with an...

Re: Flats and Bias setup
Basically the darks are taken at the same exact settings that you have for your lights, some exposure, gain, temp, time all that, but just with the cap on the scope. Correct. I always just use the Capture Dark tool in SC, to create a master dark for each camera profile I'm going to use and I'm done...

Re: Live Stacking Questions
Hi again, So i have just been watching more video yet again and doing a bit more research. So for me, my goal is in line with producing great images for print. So live stacking may not possibly be what i want, but I think if i am correct, what i need is, to be able to save each individual frame and...
