Re: ZWO 1600MM Issues

All very interesting :) . I mostly use a one-shot colour camera, but sometimes I use an ASI1600MM with filters. I did notice this week that SharpCap was not remembering some of my settings, notably to have the cooler come on, to use 16 bit and the exposure time. Could it be that I inadvertently turn...

Re: Pausing live stack for more than 60s

Fair enough. I just need to remember to pause. I think even I can do that.

Re: Live stack failed: Don't know why

I also took your advice to update. That proved to be more "interesting" than anticipated, since I discovered that the reason the internet had failed in my observatory was a failed internet repeater that you plug into the mains. Further investigations revealed that the repeater that feeds m...

Camera Rotators

I am the proud owner of a Pegasus Falcon camera rotator. This is quite a useful little device even though I have an equatorial mount. I've just discovered that I can drive it from SharpCap. That's quite a boon, since Pegasus' own driver is a nightmare to use. It takes ages to start and keeps offerin...

Re: Live stack failed: Don't know why

Hi Robin,

It turned out to be as simple as that I had unchecked the "Optimise for Faint Stars" option. Once I re-checked that, everything was fine.

Thank you for your help.

Regards, Jane. :)

Live stack failed: Don't know why

Hi: The only change I have made is to change from a Celestron C11 XLT to a Celestron Edge HD 1100. I like to use live stack because it enables me not to save bad frames, e.g. due to passing cloud. (I do the "real" postprocessing elsewhere.) Anyway, it is now telling me that it can only fin...

Pausing live stack for more than 60s

Hi: I often want to do this, because I can ask the live stack not to save bad frames that it can't stack, thus saving me disk space. The usual cause of bad frames is passing cloud, a well-known hazard in the UK. I notice in v. 4.1 that if the live stack is paused for more than 60s, a new stack start...

Just tried the Polar Alignment Feature

I am very happy with it. It's easy & painless; and, above all, quick. Clear skies are a rare commodity in South Wales these days; and I don't want to waste this scarce resource on long set-up times. I have a fixed pier in an observatory building. The mount has just come back from a tune-up at Da...

Focal Length written to FITS files

Hi: I am pretty sure that my FITS files are picking up the focal length of my scope from somewhere, but I'm afraid I can't see where this information is being picked up from. This never used to matter when I had only one telescope for imaging, but now I have an apo refractor as well as my trusty SCT...

Re: Stacking Multiple Stacks?

Hi Robin, I nicked the idea from the way they used to show galaxies in the era of photographic glass plates. Arp's 1966 Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies is available for free online, and that's the way the galaxies are presented there. See e.g. http://ned.ipac.caltech.edu/level5/Arp/Arp22.html Regards, Ja...
