Re: Interaction between FWHM and frame brightness estimates

Hi Tim, Yes, I’ve seen that too, with FWHM often following Brightness downhill as thin clouds drift through while guiding is still hanging on. It also affects multi star focusing, I have found, where the final FWHM score may bounce around as the auto selection drops or adds stars as the focus varies...

Re: Problem with livestacks - dark subtraction - in EEA

Hi Borodog, To answer your question about the number of dark frames, I have been using between 200-500 darks for a 294MC Pro, stacked, e.g. 200x60s or 500x30s, for about a year now, in order to minimise the statistical scatter contribution upon subtraction. So I don’t collect darks regularly, and I ...

Re: CPWI crash/restart leaves SharpCap half working

Hi Robin,

The Focuser is a little different. It still shows “Connected”, but when you click on a move button (e.g. negative 100) all the buttons become ghosted and nothing works.

I use the “CPWI Focuser”, so a failed mount could also set the Focuser “connected” false.

Cheers, Chris.

Re: CPWI crash/restart leaves SharpCap half working

Hi Robin,

After the background process gives up on the mount, if it then alerted the foreground GUI code to uncheck the mount "connected" checkbox, that would be much clearer, and of course not respond to a goto.

Cheers, Chris.

Re: CPWI crash/restart leaves SharpCap half working

Hi Carlo, Do you use the StarSense autoalignment module? Cancelling an autoalignment will routinely cause CPWI to simply exit, in my experience. Other than that, I find CPWI very reliable. I now simply avoid this situation. However, it confuses SharpCap. Both the mount and focuser behave oddly. If t...

CPWI crash/restart leaves SharpCap half working

Hi Robin, CPWI has a couple of bugs that can make it crash (e.g. if you "cancel" midway though a StarSense auto-alignment). Its affect on SharpCap is interesting. After re-establishing CPWI control and restored calibration, SC seems to be (re)connected to the mount again. I can use the Dat...

Re: SharpCap support for dithering via Celestron SSAG

Hi Robin, Still trying to get some details from Celestron. However, there are some posts on CloudyNights that show CPWI has its own “PHD2 server” that can be enabled. I wonder if that would appear the same to SharpCap as the real PHD2 to accept dither commands. See for example: https://www.cloudynig...

SharpCap support for dithering via Celestron SSAG

Hi Robin, Are you planning to support dithering via CPWI for the Celestron StarSense Autoguider? Some applications, such as NINA appear to be going that way. If so, it makes a very simple compact system possible (e.g. RASA8, SSAG, good cooled camera, enabling auto-alignment, guided imaging integrate...

Re: Deep Sky Sequencer - captured frames bad

I guess I’ll just give up on Still mode, as Live stacking works fine.
Cheers, Chris.

Re: Deep Sky Sequencer - captured frames bad

Hi Robin, As I noticed this problem during acquisition, I immediately followed the Still Mode sequence with a Live Stack , with frames saved. All Live Stack (30s and 4s) frames are perfect, as usual. Indeed, the order of events was Still 30s and 4s, Live 4s, Live 30s. All live frames are fine. Yes, ...
