Re: QHY 174 GPS Calibration LED issue // USB Traffic weirdness

Robin, I've been saving the GPS log file for some time now. Attached is a graph of System-GPS(s) versus Sequence Number from several nights ago. The camera showed a large positive difference at start up, which caused BadData. The only way I could shake the camera out of this state was to sync the Wi...

Re: QHY 174 GPS Calibration LED issue // USB Traffic weirdness

Robin, Thanks for confirming. But my computer differed by just a few seconds from UTC. SharpCap threw the "BadData" error, and got hung. To get unstuck, I adjusted the Windows time by "synchronizing with internet time." Upon doing this, SharpCap instantaneously went to "Part...

Why does the camera's received GPS time have to agree with the computer's clock?

I have observed that BadData could also mean that the time that comes out of the GPS could be just a few SECONDS different from the computer's clock. On several occasions in the past, e.g., last night, SharpCap showed "BadData" when the Windows clock differed by just 5 or 6 seconds from UT...

Re: Automatic adjustment of the LED (QHY-174-GPS)

Jean-Francois, Thank you for taking the time to document the history of the script, how the script works, and how to use it. For my runs, I select the script not from the menu, but rather by calling it from the *.py file saved on my desktop. My computer's docking station has two USB3 ports labeled a...

Re: Automatic adjustment of the LED (QHY-174-GPS)

I have not encountered significant problems using End Position ~= Start Position + 75,000,000*Exp(seconds). Mind you, one still has to use the LED to find the precise End Position. K. Getrost proposed reducing End Position by 1,000 or 10,000 ticks to avoid problems like BadCalibrationReduceEndPos. S...

Re: Automatic adjustment of the LED (QHY-174-GPS)

Christian,

Help me to understand.

By adjusting StartPos and EndPos in "real time," you achieved GPSU (GPS Exp.?) = SharpCap exposure within 1 microsecond?

Re: Automatic adjustment of the LED (QHY-174-GPS)

Christian, Thank you for checking on your computer. IMHO, It makes a difference. EndPos 9382105= Tend(1) is the one that, in principle, should be used. EndPos 4105 = Tend(0) is the end of the previous exposure. Some people call it the "3rd transition" because they didn't understand what it...

Re: Automatic adjustment of the LED (QHY-174-GPS)

Christian, Using autocal on my computer is pointless, because of the "issues" (old computer, USB2 speeds, etc.) My friend has a brand-new NUC computer that I am sure has all the up-to-date hardware. Here are the results she gets by manual calibration: "Extra" (3rd) transition = 4...

Re: Automatic adjustment of the LED (QHY-174-GPS)

The sketch is fantastic! It nicely illustrates my example when SharpCap's nominal exposure = 1 second. For the values given in the sketch, Exposure time = 2850-6280 < 0, which could not literally be true. I believe that 75,000,000 must be added to the result. Is it an accepted fact that the number o...

Re: Automatic adjustment of the LED (QHY-174-GPS)

Hi Christian & all, Thank you for that. The "USB3 ports" on my Dell docking station are running at USB2 speeds, which I verified this afternoon using CrystalDiskMark. The i5 computer docked to it has a warranty which expired in 2014, so the computer is really old! Must get a new one so...
