Re: Format of Darks question

Hi Robin,

But does it matter whether darks are saved as .png instead of .fits?

Re: Live Stack - Save and reset every x minutes

OK, thanks for the quick answer, Robin.

You might want to make a note to add a sentence or two to this effect in the next revision of the user manual.

Format of Darks question

Hi Robin, I just noticed that all of the Darks I take are saved in .png format instead of .fits format. This seems to happen even if I turn off Auto for Output Format and specifically specify .fits output format, and seems to happen for both RAW8 and RAW16 color space. But the Sharpcap 3.2 User Manu...

Live Stack - Save and reset every x minutes

Hi Robin, When I use the Save and reset every x minutes option in live stacking, Sharpcap saves both 16-bit and 32-bit copies of the stack. I wonder why it does both. - Presumably the intended use for this is to take these multiple fits files to another stacking program like DSS or ASTAP. Is it bett...

Record Focal Length with images

Robin, I've been experimenting with various combinations of focal reducers and also with ASPS platesolving. "One thing you may notice is that there is the option to include the current filter name in the filename using the {Filter} tag. If you are not using an ASCOM filter wheel then you can still u...

Quirks with ASCOM support of iOptron AZ Mount Pro

Hi Robin, I gave up on using my old iOptron Minitower and have acquired a new iOptron AZ Mount Pro. On the whole, Sharpcap Beta 3.1.4722 is much happier. But I have noticed the a couple of problems. * Version of SharpCap: 3.1.4722 * Camera and other hardware being user: ZWO ASI224MC * Operating syst...

Re: iOptron Minitower - Error connecting to ASCOM mount. Object required.

I've been doing a little more experimenting. Carl-Christian, I definitely confirm your observation that "As soon as I sync I get weird stuff going on, even overcurrent errors and sometimes the object suddenly moves below the horizon (warning in hand controller)". This happens when I drive it with my...

Re: iOptron Minitower - Error connecting to ASCOM mount. Object required.

Hi Carl-Christian, I haven't tried it with plate solving - in fact your question prompted me to look it up in the Sharpcap documentation which led me to http://www.astrogb.com/astrogb/All_Sky_Plate_Solver.html. This looks VERY useful - thanks for that tip. I haven't been able to play much lately wit...

Re: iOptron Minitower - Error connecting to ASCOM mount. Object required.

Hi Robin, Hold the presses! There is a newer/better iOptron ASCOM driver and it appears to work with the MiniTower mount. When one goes to the iOptron support webpage and selects ASCOM drivers, and then selects "MiniTower, MiniTower II and MiniTower Pro" it only displays the 2011-vintage ASCOM Drive...

Re: iOptron Minitower - Error connecting to ASCOM mount. Object required.

Hi Robin, But since the mount has reported that it can't move any of the axes: 13:48:13.556 CanMoveAxis:Primary OK CanMoveAxis:Primary False 13:48:13.610 CanMoveAxis:Secondary OK CanMoveAxis:Secondary False 13:48:13.674 CanMoveAxis:Tertiary OK CanMoveAxis:Tertiary False shouldn't you take that to me...
