Re: Stacking Comparison

I just learnt the maths as ... whatever the SNR is in just one frame at your exp time and gain ... if you stack N frames then sqrt of N is the new SNR. So stack of 8 = sqrt of 8 = 2.8 times the signal to noise ratio of just one frame. And stack of 200 = sqrt of 200 = 14.1 times the SNR of just one f...

Re: Beginners Workflow for Live Stacking plus focus and target Tips

Check you havent got the mini histogram auto stretched .... there's three small buttons on the right hand side of the mini-histrogam. Hover help will tell you what they do. The top one is the auto stretch. The middle one is to reset so there is no stretch. And the bottom one saves the image on scree...

Very basic rig for VA / EAA with excellent results

I stuck this post into the Gallery thread but the actual image is within a HD desktop video capture ... to show what is possible for those wondering if VA /EAA is a direction they'd like to go (while waiting for their AP rigs to do their normal long sequence runs, or if wondering if a camera will ge...

Re: Polar Align Tool

I do PA before turning on the mount. After balancing the OTA, I just release the RA clutch and turn it by hand to each position. Very quick and easy. When you finish the polar alignment, rotate and lock in the Home position and power up the mount and proceed to 1 or 2 or 3 or whatever star alignment...

Re: Polar alignment isn't correct even though Sharpap Says excellent

Perhaps also check File>Settings>Polar Alignment tab where by default the lat and long used is set from your pc's timezone and stuff. If your pc clock etc has been changed by software update or something at that time has made the pc go nuts, then it could be incorrectly set from the pc. If you set b...

Re: Polar aligning from ANY part of the sky

The iOptron hand control has a PA routine built into it. Look for it in your manual. No need to see the pole to use it. You iterate between two stars you can see as East as possible and as West as possible - if memory serves me correctly. Club members get close enough that autoguiding with both DEC ...

Re: No colour with Live Stacking of Folder Monitor Camera

If your files are Canon CR2 format then SharpCap will not read them. You have to convert them to tif or fit format and then they will load via the SharpCap Folder Monitor Camera option. The folder monitor only works with png, fit, tif, jpg. Robin will correct me if some newer version does more, but ...
